"Nailed it! Plus when cutting the steerer, you're pretty much stuck with your choice if you happen to decide you're unhappy with it later. Interesting that you found that on VO's site since all their current bikes are threadless."

mike w. replied to Matt M. 18.5KM's discussion Threadless vs. Threaded Headsets
"Never had that issue. If your loaded bike fell over hard enough to ruin your steerer, i'd think you'd also have even bigger issues with your bike and kit than that. (One good reason to avoid kickstands and to simply lay your bike gently on…"

The machine has got to be accepted, but it is probably better to accept it rather as one accepts a drug -- that is, grudgingly and suspiciously. Like a drug, the machine is useful, dangerous, and habit-forming. The oftener one surrenders to it the tighter its grip becomes. -George Orwell, novelist (1903-1950)

Thanks for the offer re: the swap.
Metra adds 90 minutes to my journey I am not too excited about, as I'd have to travel downtown to pick it up-- still trying to find other options.
Thanks!
