It looks to me as if it was at one time a Raleigh DL 1 also called a Tourist which is the "Bobbie Bike" in the England. I have one with the rod brakes etc.

Badakhshan was the most beautiful part in my opinion. I spent a few days in Khorog trying to find a car and then traveled along The Wakhan Corridor and back up through on the Highway to Murgab. I'd love to do that by bike so I could travel at my own pace instead of a driver pushing to go further. Most people think I made up the country "Tajikistan" when I mention it.
Absolutely! It was a surprsie to hear you'd been there as well - usually I get the quizzical look followed by "Where?" I'd enjoy trading travel stories sometime tho most of my Tajik experiences were limited to Badakhshan along the Afghan border...
