Over the years Matt M's organized a number of trips from Chicago over to Madison. This year; tragedy! Matt can't manage it. I've done the last two trips and am familiar with the route and the…Continue

I'm headed to Pittsburgh on Sunday to bike down to Washington.  Sadly the second half of the trip is through the C&O Canal National Park, and it's closed. The owners of various B&Bs where I'm…Continue

"That said I'd like to see better managing of the traffic light at LaSalle. Lots of cars trying to get out of the parking lot are trapped by bikes and walkers that don't see the special green light that traffic gets for only about eight…"

Tricolor replied to Waymond Smith's discussion Motorized E Bikes allowed on lakefront path?
"Gas bikes I've seen on the trail are home-built chop jobs that are lucky to crack 10 mph. Electric bikes are moving much faster than any other traffic and would cause a lot more damage in a crash. Plus they're more numerous."

Tricolor replied to Stephen P.'s discussion Can cars use a bike lane to parallel park?
"It's what I do when I have to parallel park. Anyone that's been trained how to do it knows you need to start next to the car you're parking behind. It's nice to use your turn signal as you pull up to make the maneuver, though."

Tricolor replied to Yasmeen's discussion What's this doing in the bike lane?
"It's clear the car doesn't fit against the curb, though. Hopefully some more yellow paint is easy enough to get 311 or the alderman's office to do something."

Tricolor replied to Yasmeen's discussion What's this doing in the bike lane?
"It's still doesn't excuse the mindset of someone that thinks that's a legal spot to when they're half in the bike lane. The contractor was pretty lazy with the sign and paint though, too."

Tricolor replied to Gene Tenner's discussion Lakefront Trail separation project moves one step forward
"If the lake gets filled in that much the city needs to add a trolley line between Navy Pier and the Lincoln Park Zoo. Add a handful of stops and it would be both a good tourist draw and be useful to some commuters, like San Francisco's cable…"

Tricolor replied to Gene Tenner's discussion Lakefront Trail separation project moves one step forward
"Nothing will. The entrance to the trail from Navy Pier is only stairs. It's going to be the same pedestrian nightmare but the current bridge sidewalk (should it remain open) will be the preferred way for commuters."

Tricolor replied to Skyler Retzlaff's discussion Recommendations on Bikes

Yes sir, it's that time of year!  We have a friend in common who is set on coming along, so I'm content that I've at least got one companion.  I've done some route cleaning, upgraded my bags, gear, and tent, switched to solar power, made arrangements which should make the ride a bit cheaper, backed up the route to my phone, bought new tires, etc...  I'm going to stay in west Madison an extra day, so I won't be around to shepherd anyone home.  Also, all the bridges along the Glacial Drumlin have been completed, so bring your trail pass or you'll be reminded to get one!
