"It's clear the car doesn't fit against the curb, though. Hopefully some more yellow paint is easy enough to get 311 or the alderman's office to do something."

"It's still doesn't excuse the mindset of someone that thinks that's a legal spot to when they're half in the bike lane. The contractor was pretty lazy with the sign and paint though, too."

Tricolor replied to Skyler Retzlaff's discussion Recommendations on Bikes
"Those are all wear items. If you like the bike as it is replace them and you're good to go. It sounds like you're wanting a bit of a change, though, so start looking at bike stores to see what kind of commuter you want and you can look at…"

Tricolor replied to Gene Tenner's discussion Why Don't Bicyclists Get Ticketed For Running Red Lights? These Guys Did
"Good for them. I saw a biker on Dearborn this morning swerve into oncoming traffic, weave through pedestrians on one side then have to stop for pedestrians on the other, eventually forcing their way through, to avoid stopping for 30 seconds in a…"

"They don't. Or rather they do move, but straight up so you get hit in the face and crash. I've watched it happen twice to the can't/won't/don't stop (or slow, in this case) crowd."

Tricolor replied to Jim Reho's discussion Are old Trek mountain bikes any good?
"What size are you looking for? I've got a 19 inch 930 from 1994 I haven't ridden for about twenty years, and a 17 inch lugged 970 frame from 91."

Tricolor replied to David Barish's discussion touring bike advice sought
"The Aurora's already billed as a touring bike. Buy some racks, load it up and see how it feels if you're already comfortable on it. You can always move the racks to another bike if you don't like it. If the Aurora feels good loaded…"

Tricolor replied to Sean Newby's discussion Congratulations Chicago Cubs!
"I left for work an hour early on the train and got to work... an hour early. Sure it was crowded but trying to get a bike near here today would have been much worse."

"Where was it? I see a few tourists lost on the trail every year. Park district drivers are usually okay but some contractors really tear ass in the morning to get down to Oak Street or with those paving operations this summer."

Tricolor replied to Irvin Steinert's discussion Shoaling...can someone explain the sociology?
"This is best. If you're faster pass them properly. Shoaling is the same as a car that will veer right into a turning zone then try to 'ace out' through traffic, usually jumping the light in the process."

Yes sir, it's that time of year!  We have a friend in common who is set on coming along, so I'm content that I've at least got one companion.  I've done some route cleaning, upgraded my bags, gear, and tent, switched to solar power, made arrangements which should make the ride a bit cheaper, backed up the route to my phone, bought new tires, etc...  I'm going to stay in west Madison an extra day, so I won't be around to shepherd anyone home.  Also, all the bridges along the Glacial Drumlin have been completed, so bring your trail pass or you'll be reminded to get one!
