Pedestrian Scramble at State and Jackson

Chicago seems to be trying to emulate Tokyo with a pedestrian-only free-for-all crossing at State and Jackson.  News crews were all over the place, city workers were configuring the lights and…Continue

"It won't be so deep or heavy that your wheels won't punch through, and the ground is too warm for ice.  Just ride normally as you would in the wet; hope you have fenders!  I wanted to ride to day but I draw the line at rain.…"

Tricolor replied to Michael B's discussion LFP Damaged in yesterday's storm
"The sand south of Fullerton has been dug away from the trail to its full width.  The pavement could use a sweep but the trail is open and relatively safe. North of Oak Street there was a small contracting crew with a few bobcats and a small…"

Tricolor replied to Michael B's discussion LFP Damaged in yesterday's storm
"It was a little better last night.  All the stray slabs of asphalt have been removed from the trail but you still need to bump over the missing sections.  About a third of the sand covering the trail south of Fullerton has been removed,…"

"I'd suggest State Street.  It's not too busy in the mornings even in the loop, and up around Illinois there's lots of space for bikes in both directions. I normally take State southbound in the mornings and the lake all the way…"

"And that's the nice part.  Just south of Fullerton the trail's under two feet of sand.  Last night I had to ride on the single track that is next to Lake Shore Drive.  The choke point at Navy Pier is trashed, too."

Yes sir, it's that time of year!  We have a friend in common who is set on coming along, so I'm content that I've at least got one companion.  I've done some route cleaning, upgraded my bags, gear, and tent, switched to solar power, made arrangements which should make the ride a bit cheaper, backed up the route to my phone, bought new tires, etc...  I'm going to stay in west Madison an extra day, so I won't be around to shepherd anyone home.  Also, all the bridges along the Glacial Drumlin have been completed, so bring your trail pass or you'll be reminded to get one!
