"While not advocating for lane takeover on a daily basis, it *absolutely* works by making you more visible and making cars respect you.  Getting buzzed while riding in the gutter is TERRIFYING not to mention it's dangerous due to the…"

Jane Healy replied to Duppie's discussion Route advice from downtown to Blue Island
"Crossing the Dan Ryan at 69th gets my vote of approval.  I much prefer it over Marquette. Out of curiosity, why did you choose to jog over at 81st from Vincennes to Halsted?  While 81st has less traffic, the condition of the road through…"

Jane Healy replied to Duppie's discussion Route advice from downtown to Blue Island
"Much depends on how comfortable you are riding in/around traffic, and what your timeframe is.  The fastest route is to take Vincennes, in my experience. If you don't mind traffic, then Halsted to Vincennes to Longwood is a pretty decent…"

The Southside Critical Mass community bike ride meets every 3rd Friday of the month (weather permitting) at 6:30pm at Nat King Cole Park, located at 8500 S. "I can't tell you how many times I've had a child fall asleep while on the back end of a trail-a-bike, tandem or or while riding on the bike rack (pillion style)!  I think we've logged at least 100 miles doing this--yet we never…"

Hi Jane!  Um, I hope this is ok to post, but I attended a cycling sis workshop at Blackstone Bikes in 2007, and snapped a photo of you showing us how to repair a flat.  Well, anyway, I submitted the photo last year to the APBA, the Association of Pedistrian and Bicycle Professionals, and the photo has won a contest and will be featured on some of their pamphlets and such.  Just wanted to give you a chance to tell me otherwise.  Thanks for all that you do, Suzanne
