Women Bike Chicago

A grass roots group started by local women to encourage other women to ride bikes for fun, for commuting, for transport, or for whatever.  The group presented the First Annual "Women Bike Chicago:  a Day of Dialogue and Demonstrations" at UIC campus on March 23, 2013.

The event was "by women for women" with the hope that some of our more timid sisters would feel comfortable investigating, asking questions, getting on a bike, and riding.  In that, we believe we were successful.

Going forward, we hope to plan smaller, perhaps more focused events in the neighborhoods, maybe some group rides, and at least an annual big event.  We are still very "grass roots" and will be happy to have more women join us with ideas and/or by rolling up sleeves and getting involved in organizing future events.

We want to see women cycling on the streets, on the paths, and on the trails for transportation, to run errands, or just for fun.  Any woman can do it!

I am betting that Justyna will be at the Rapid Transit table.

We should have our flyer--designed by the wonderful folks at Active Trans--available on Saturday.  At the very least we will have it at the Chicago Cycling Club table and the Chainlink table.  Anne Alt will be at the Chicago Cycling Club table for a while, Susan Levin will be at the Chainlink table for a while, Jane Healy will be participating in a presentation about raising the next generation of cyclists at 11:30, Jennifer James and Jane will be at the kids' craft table, I hear that Anika Byerly and Ash Lottes will be hanging out--maybe around the cargo bikes . . . A great chance to meet one another and touch base.

We will have our "volunteer wish list" in a couple of days and I will pass it on here.  I might even have more information on Saturday.  Will be at the Chainlink table at the Bike Swap between 1 and 3.  Stop by!  At the very least it will be nice to meet those of you whom I do not already know.

Planning is moving along for the event!  Guys, do you know women who might be interested in attending or in volunteering?  Point them here or to the blog.
