Women of Chainlink Chicago

Women are the fastest growing group of cyclists so we recently expanded our women's cycling resources section and launching this group. The "Women of Chainlink Chicago" group will have real-time updates with articles, events, clinics, product reviews, races, and lots of bike-related goodness. Check out this fun, social 10 mile ride on Saturday from 3-5 in Villa Park, IL with wine and cheese afterwards!  Hope to see you there!

Interested in giving mountain biking a try?
REI is doing a women's introduction to mountain biking at Palos on September 10, 8 am to 12 pm.

Experience the thrill of mountain biking with our enthusiastic, knowledgeable instructors! We'll start by addressing proper bike fit and making any necessary adjustments to your bike. Next we'll demonstrate riding techniques, including body and pedal position, shifting, braking, climbing, descending, and navigating minor obstacles on the trail. We'll also go over important communication skills and mountain biking trail etiquette with the aim of keeping multi-use trails open and safe for everyone. And finally, we'll practice all these new skills on a great trail ride! Don't have a bike? REI will provide mountain bikes. Recommended for those 14 and older; those under 18 must be accompanied by parent or responsible adult. No rider will be left behind!

  • Learn how to mount and dismount a mountain bike both in stationary and moving environments
  • Learn the proper techniques of shifting, braking, hill climbing/descending, and clearing minor obstacles
  • Find local areas where you can begin to build your skills as a mountain biker.

Did you ride Rapha 100 over the weekend? Here's a follow up article on Pretty Damned Fast, "The Next Hundred"

It includes great tips for how to prepare for more rides. Longer rides. And find friends to ride with.

The Chainlink just registered an open club if you'd like to join us for rides, centuries, and/or races. Contact yasmeen@thechainlink for more information.
