Join us for this longtime Bike Winter Tradition!

We'll meet up on March 17 at the food court of the Ogilvie Center, 500 W. Madison, at 7:30 am and catch the 8:30 Metra train with our bikes to Harvard, IL. We'll arrive at 10:20, then pedal roughly 75 miles to the Great Dane brewpub downtown Madison, WI, to hang out with local cyclists. A bit of St. Patrick's Day barhopping is a possibility, after which we will crash on couches and floors provided by Madison Bike Winter folks.

Following a hearty brunch Sunday morning, we'll bicycle back to Harvard to catch the 6:35 or 8:35 pm train, arriving at Ogilvie at 8:23 or 10:23 pm.

Since space on Metra is limited to 20 bikes and I need to arrange home stays in Madison, an RSVP is strictly required. But please don't RSVP unless you definitely plan on showing up.

I'm excited about going on this ride. Is it my responsibility to find a couch to sleep on, or are we meeting enough people in Madison that we'll have plenty of options for couches?

I believe Boulevard Bikes sells the BFW map. I'm not familiar with the WisDOT map, but it's probably just fine for this. The city of Madison is slightly tricky to navigate without a map, and there are some nice trails to ride into town, so it's worth tracking down a city bike map if you plan to ride there solo. Boulevard may have this as well.

I think we'll probably shoot for the 6:35 train but if we have a late night of barhopping on Saturday or a nasty headwind Sunday we could have the 8:35 as a fallback. There's several dive bars to kill time in in Harvard.

Really looking forward to this, guys! Of the folks planning to ride back on Sunday, is anyone planning to catch the 6:34pm train? I don't want to split up a big happy group, but I will probably try to leave Madison early and/or take a quicker pace in order to save myself a bit of evening cooldown time on Sunday. 

John, is the WI Bike Fed map significantly better than the ones available on the WIDOT site? I've used those in the past with mixed results and will bring a copy with me.

Is there anyplace in town to buy copies of those maps, John? I'm dropping my order here: http://www.bfw.org/join_us_today/merchandise/

and hoping it can arrive by Friday.

(I double checked with a Madison friend--the Southern Area Map covers the county where Madison sits.)
