The Chainlink

I must admit that I'm somewhat awestruck by the insane mayhem of the Clark street resurfacing project north of Devon this week. Alderman announces it's happening. A week later, the street is filled with cars, bikes, and pedestrians going every which way around craters, asphalt grinders, manhole covers, paving machines, steamrollers, huge trucks, cones, street sweepers, construction workers, etc.  Five days later, almost all of the work looks like it's basically "done."

This, as opposed to a location like, say Winnetka, which spent more time last summer redoing a single intersection on Green Bay road than it took for Chicago to rebuild the entire south end of the Red Line.
