Anybody have recommendations for places to get a frame powder coated or painted? I've done some searching and can't seem to find many places.

UV Metal Arts does a great job. And he's a chainlink member. He's not the cheapest, but he is the best.
If you're referring to Chester Cycles in Libertyville, I believe they've stopped painting.

There is Chester Cycles too.. Just throwing it out there.

Are you looking for Earl Sheib just to get the job done, or something really serious?

If serious work, I would also throw UV in the ring.. From what I have seen, Yuval does fantastic work. I like his fades from one color to another. I am a huge fan of schemes like that.

I'm just looking for a cheap, simple paint job. As long as it doesn't look like garbage in two years I'll be happy.

Try S&B Finishing Co.

on Sacremento and Franklin Ave.

Just south of Humboldt park.

They have done  dozens of finish jobs for me.

starting at $90 for bike powdercoating ( cost depends on color)

Ask for Uju .

They are always willing to deal, so dont be afraid to ask.....if you are on a budget.

Sorry. I didn't know that Duane had relocated and opened up again. Glad to hear he's back.
Am I correct in assuming that he's not a very cheap option?

Duane Waller of Chester Cycles is most certainly painting frames. He is on NW side of Chicago now. I just got back a frame he did for me. There is nobody that comes close to his work in this area.
Urban powdercoat, $120 for frame and fork. They are a 2 man show and have a turnover of 3 to 7 days. I have used them for a few frames and it is good work for the price.
Do you have any contact information for them? All I could find was a facebook page, no phone number or website.

From the people I've talked to so far it seems as if most companies have a minimum charge between 150 and 175. So I doubt you'll be able to find anyone willing to do it for less than a new rack.

I don't want to hijack but I am interested in getting something powdercoated too. I don't need a whole frame done, just a bike rack. Thing is though, the rack only cost $35, and I've already spent $12 on some Chassis/Rollbar epoxy spray paint that is already flaking/chipping off. Might be coming off because I sprayed over an existing factory powder coat job though. Is this something I could get done for a few bucks or is it likely to cost as much or more than what I paid for the rack?
The face book page is the only "site" they have. I am picking up a frame and fork from them Tuesday/Wednesday and I can ask them what they will charge you. PM me your email and I will send all the contact information and some pictures of the stuff I had done.

Many of the local places won't do jobs this small. The best way is to work through a shop who has an account with a local powder coater (there are several) and have it tossed in with their usual frame run. To keep the pricing even lower, have it shot with the same powder as a frame that's part of the run.

But it won't be a few bucks -- I've been charged between $20 and $35 for racks (including stripping/prep), never as much as the $150 quoted.

I wonder what the powdercoating price scaling is for design intricacy.
