The Chainlink

According to Alderman Reilly, it is going to be relocated to Grand Ave. because of the impact that the Wolf Point development will have on traffic.  Hopefully it will connect all the way to Milwaukee Ave.  Source:  bitly.com/VN8x9p

Maybe I'm the only one who goes south of Kinzie, but I ride past Kinzie over the bridge (Jewel) and take a left at Washington.

No, I used to do that all the time when I worked at 2 North Riverside. It does get a little hairy from Clinton to Wacker or so, but not too bad, and the Washington bridge has concrete filling on the steel grate.

Agreed. Although I do enjoy the protected lanes, taking Washington isn't too bad. The traffic is usually bumper to bumper on Washington which makes it easier to deal with, and the bridge is much easier and shorter then the awkward Wells or LaSalle bridges. Its also fun going down the hill after Jewel (if you hit the light)!

+1  And here's more detail on the Wolf Point proposal and a follow-up article.  Does anyone have further news from the last 2 weeks?

Steven/Ethan...thanks for following up. Don't want to see this become a Chicago version of Toronto's Jarvis street.

Here's the latest.  The development proposal was up for a vote today.  The developer slipped in a last minute surprise: the possibility of up to 1800 hotel rooms.  WTF?

Not sure what the worry is here. Steven Vance has confirmed that the removal of the Kinzie lane will only be temporary. He got that directly from the city, so we can totally believe it.

Ciao Bello, life is beautiful.

Straight up, or "what, me worry?" sarcasm?  Knowing you as I do, I suspect it's a bit of the latter.  You gotta work on your online sarcasm, Howard.  ;)

Back to the topic at hand... the amount of additional traffic in the area is the worry.  Even if all the traffic to/from the Wolf Point development goes to Orleans, we all know it's not going to stay on Orleans.  Some of it will undoubtedly affect Kinzie - whether or not the city keeps its promise about post-construction restoration of the protected lanes on Kinzie.  Some cyclists will still be using Kinzie, with or without protected lanes.

Saw this in the Trib today: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-met-wolf-point-deferred....  Ald. Reilly pulled the proposal from the committee

Make no mistake, folks.  Something big is going to be built there.  Christopher Kennedy is low-key as Kennedys go, but he is a Kennedy.  From today's Trib article, it seems reasonable to believe this is a little blip in the radar.

Again, here's a link to yesterday's Trib article.  Does anyone else get the feeling that there was a lot more going on behind the scenes yesterday than what's indicated in the Trib and Sun-Times articles?  ;0

At this point, I have no doubt that something large will get built there.  It's just a matter of how large, and the mix of uses in the development.

Here's the Crain's article, which adds a bit more detail to the picture.

Cynic that I am, I assume that there was a lot more going on behind the scenes than what is indicated in any of the newspaper articles ;-).
