July Gravel Road Ride at Boulevard Bikes / Logan Square

July 8, 2017 at 5pm to July 9, 2017 at 12am
Another full moon is upon us. Taking a cue from last month, we aim to get an earlier start. Some daylight riding will let us soak in all that the wonderful Des Plaines River Trail has to offer. We will ride as far as folks would like, with the intention of riding north to the east-west segment of the Robert McClory trail, taking it east to Lake Bluff (and a Metra option), and riding the Green Bay Trail home. We could also ride all the way to Wisconsin and meander over to Illinois Beach State…See More

Strawberry Moon Gravel Ride at Boulevard Bikes

June 9, 2017 at 7pm to June 10, 2017 at 1am
A night ride! This month's full moon is know as the Strawberry Moon, due to ripening strawberry crop. I would like to ride the crushed limestone Prairie Path. By moonlight the white limestone is bright, making headlights unnecessary. But there will be plenty of road miles to and from, so lights will be important. This will be a multi-hour ride, so bring food/sustenance. If there's consensus, we will ride to the Fox River and back. But I'm open to shorter distances/time commitments. Meet at the…See More

"Not blistering fast. But fast enough to keep from getting bogged down. It will be dry up there so bogged down in respect to effort. 12-15 on smooth ground, 6-12 on gravel."

Off-Road/Gravel Ride! at Illinois Centennial Monument (Kedzie/Milwaukee)

April 1, 2017 from 9am to 12pm
April Fools' Day will be our first group ride of the year. Meet at the Illinois Centennial Monument. We are going to head north along paths and railbeds, some old, some still active. If there's momentum, we can ride all the way to the Baha'i Temple off-road. Or we can double back once me make it to Green Bay Road. Wide tires are helpful, as there are some short intense sections of ballast. Cyclocross tires are fine if you can power through the rough.See More

Westside Rollercoaster / October Gravel Ride at Illinois Centennial Monument

October 23, 2016 from 9am to 11:30am
Hello Folks. It's time for another off-road exploration. I'd like to take you all on a tour of some westside tracks and "found land". The first segment has a few rough patches of ballast, so powering through on a cyclotour bike will be necessary. I usually ride this on my MTB with 2 inch tires, but ripped it on my 'cross bike recently. The jem of the route is the seccond half- a rollercoaster of singletrack. Perfect for multiplle loops. This month we've moved the ridde to Sunday morning, 9AM.…See More

Monthly Gravel Road Ride at Illinois Centennial Monument

June 18, 2016 from 10am to 2pm
This Month I'd like to explore an area know to my buddies as "The Zone". Many folks have ridden here over the years. There are some swoopy double-track trails with steep, BMX-worthy rises and drop-offs. This area is soon to be leveled for development (or so they threaten), so we better tear it up while we've got the chance. Meet at the Monument at 10am for a few hours of riding. Bring water and snacks. Mountain bikes and cyclo-cross bikes will work best, but anything is welcome.See More

Gravel Road Ride 3 at Illinois Centennial Monument (Kedzie/Milwaukee)

May 1, 2016 from 9am to 11:30am
Not everyone is free to ride all day on the Grumpy Grinds and Barry Roubaix's of the region. Sometimes it just takes an extra half hour on your way to work to get 'out there'. That's been my M.O. this past winter. Ice, cold, snow, rain- it's all OK when you're up on some rail-gravel. For this month's installment we'll be hitting up some terrain going into and out of the loop. Meet-up at the Illinois Centennial Monument at 9am, we'll be back before noon. Bring a bike with soft tires, and a…See More
