Horrible. There's a probably a story behind the story, but it is tragic nonetheless.

I rode by there on my way to Bubbly Dynamics last evening and wondered what that was. Pretty cool.

UV, your guy Sean/Shaun (sp) did a nice job straightening out the old school Diamondback BMX frame I brought in. Watching him do it was quite educational!

This may be obvious, but if not, check out the Boulevard System for some great historic architecture and Park District treasures. Garfield Park Conservatory is not to be missed. http://www.logansquarepreservation.org/boulevardhistory.html http://w…

Not to sound like a big ad for SBP, but I think you'll find they'll give you a better price if you stop in. I would think any shop that orders through QBP should be able to get those tires. Some will want to compete at least somewhat on price.

I don't have any specific advice, but I would recommend checking out the Touring Forum on Bikeforums.net

If you can't find them in stock anywhere, ask Smart Bike Parts to order.

Look out for areas of the frame (downtube, under the bottom bracket, etc.) that have been rubbed or scratched out to conceal the serial number. Also notice if there's just a make (e.g. Nishiki) and no model (e.g. Colorado) showing on the decals; som…

Profile Information

What I ride:
Road, Fixed Gear
The kind of riding I do:
Recreational, Exercise, Commuting, Around Town
About me:
I love older Japanese lugged steel road bikes. I have an 88 Lotus Excelle built up with Shimano 600 Arabesque parts; also have a Working Bikes Panasonic-built Schwinn LeTour rebuilt as an indexed 6-speed. I just finished a Sanwa single speed conversion, and I'm working on a Schwinn Impact MOS mountain bike being built as commuter with slick tires, fenders, and a rack.

At the moment, I'm fascinated with making old road bikes into indexed 5- and 6-speeds - kind of a cross between a single speed and a fully geared bike. I've been hoarding Shimano 6-speed parts like armageddon is coming.

i had heard that about the bikes, that the frames are great but the setup varies from model to model.

the lotus ended up being too large for me, so i didnt get it. i ended up getting lucky and stumbled across an '86 trek 310 elance. it's really light (arund 24lbs) even though its has a stock setup. i think with some tweaking i can get it down to the very low 20's...only time will tell.

thanks for the response!
