Been riding the hilly gravel roads in Northwest Illinois west of Freeport for many winters.  Most are hard packed with snow and ice.  All will melt down to messy today and freeze back again on Sunday.  Our steed of choice is a Trek Crocket cyclocross shod with Panaracer Gravel King 32c tires at 70-75psi.  The tires ride smoothly and grip the gravel in the hills.

If any readers are interested in scenic gravel routes out here, let me know via email, and I'll send you a route link on ridewithgps.
