The Chainlink

2017 Chainlink Ambassador: Tiber Scheer

Tiber Scheer is ¼ of an awesome dirtbagger family and rides for The Bonebell and The Chainlink. Tiber found commuting by bike solved the limitations of commuting by skateboard in his native San Francisco. Midwest transplantation in 2006 led him to discover The Chainlink and dig deeper into Chicago cycling community.

Types of Cycling:

Road, Cyclocross, Mountain, Commuting, Cargo Bike, Fixed Gear

First bike?

Hmm...my first bike was red with coaster brakes and it had solid rubber wheels. I lived on a hill and you know that hill had tons of black skid marks. My second bike, was an awesome 80's bmx dream. A huffy blue and gold Pro Thunder. That thing took me everywhere.

What inspires you to ride?

My family (I ride with them, not trying to get away from them :) ), my friends, a natural wanderlust

Any advice for people who are just getting started commuting and/or riding?

Find a group/someone to ride with if even if you enjoy riding solo. It’s great to have bike friends. Someone to push you to ride harder, someone to take a pull when you bonk, a friend to recommend a good winter glove, a bike shop. Be a friend to your local bike shop(s). Scour the Chainlink forum.

Do you have a cycling bucket list? What’s on the list?

More dirt, multi day road ride in the works for this year, 100 mile MTB race later this summer.

Favorite places to bike to for a snack, drinks, coffee, or food?

Sugar Beet Co-op (812 Madison St, Oak Park, IL),El Taco Velos (1745 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL), The Spoke and Bird (205 E 18th St, Chicago, IL)

How many bikes do you own?

Currently have 18 bikes in the family quill (only four are mine). Oh, and two trailers.
