If you are up for a supported bike camping trip, this event in June might be a good option - they have lots of beer, a band, a campground, etc. And all you have to do is ride your bike and have fun.

Shabbona Woods in South Holland has a new camp ground. We're thinking of riding there this weekend.

There is an interesting country bike rally in MSP this coming weekend,

JIm has posted the itinerary for this rally on his website.  I have been to his events, they are a blast.

For what it's worth, I've made other plans - the pierogis will have to wait until next year.

...on the other hand, Indiana Dunes is just over 30 miles from Whiting, so we could use PierogiFest as a stop over on the way there and the way back.

Spark any interest?

After digging a bit deeper, it looks like Jellystone in Portage is a bit of a dump (reviews on Yelp and looking over the site on Google satellite view). Not much else I the way of campgrounds in the area.

Does anyone know otherwise?

All three of those look great. Let's have some others chime in with their thoughts and suggestions

RAGBRAI runs 7/20 through 7/26, so there is a conflict for those that are doing that.

Three ideas come to mind:

  • A ride up to Illinois State Beach in Zion for a S24O style outing.
  • Heading out the day before (7/25) the CL ride to PierogiFest in Whiting, IN and staying at Jellystone in Portage, IN. Meet up with fellow Chainlinkers at the fest the next day, and then return to Chicago with them.
  •  Head out with the group to PierogiFest on the 26th, but then continue on to camp in Portage afterward, instead of returning to Chicago with them. Head back the 27th.

This looks like it would be fun if we could get a decent group together. Thoughts?

Hi Andy. Yes I am interested. Tour de Shore re-ignited the bike camping bug in me. RE : July 26th - when is RAGBRAI ?

I'm pretty open for the entire summer; I think the trick is making reservations, and planning.
