Thanks for the heads-up.  This sounds like a don't miss.

Speaking as a non-retired person, and someone who loves train travel, it's extremely doubtful I could spare the extra 5 days(?) for the train trip.

As to accomodations-- I think the best option by far would be to connect with local massers for accomodation opportunities.

Is there still much of a community around SFCM? How/where do they communicate, if so?

I created this group just to see if there would be any interest in going to San Francisco next year for this.

It's a year away, but it might help to plan early.

I did a little investigating about how I might go about this:

1. Take a 1-train trip, 3 day/2 nights on Amtrak, to Emeryville, across the bay from San Francisco:

2. Stay at the Fisherman's Wharf Hostel, from Wed/Thur arrival until Sat/Sun departure for home.

3. Take a 2-train trip back to Chicago:

The Coast Starlight to Portland (2-day, 1 night)

The Empire Builder, to Chicago (3-day, 2 nights)

Anybody interested in going, join this group and see what we can get together for this.
