Can we all agree that the Kinzie bridge Kathy plates...

...are not a safe place to pass a cyclist in dry conditions, let alone in the slippery conditions we had this morning when a cyclist tried to pass me?

Just wait until you are across the bridge, sheesh.

Agreed. Kinzie bridge seems too tight to make any passes, especially in wet weather. Did someone slip?

Now with more people riding than I've ever seen in years past, road rage with fellow cyclists has increased it seems. Just the other day as I was cruising down the Washington bike lane, I was slowly turning right and didn't realize I cut off a speedy cyclist trying to pass me up. He yelled that I should have signaled a turn.

I've been getting passed on the right lately at times (even by people not on a Divvy, etc.).  Maybe it's a group riding thing, or something that just gets handed down informally from a majority of cyclists to other cyclists, but passing on the right without announcing VERY clearly that you're doing so is a big no-no with the people I've always ridden with.  It never used to happen to me even up to like 2 or 3 years ago, and now it happens in the Loop with at least enough regularity to notice the change.

No one slipped, fortunately. To the passing cyclist's credit, she called out "on your left," and I held my arm out and said "Hang on, hang on," until we had crossed the bridge. I don't know if that was the right reaction but I was freaked out by the idea of a cyclist trying to pass me in that narrow space, particularly in slippery conditions.

Glad to hear there were no injuries, considering that bridge has a history of bad juju.

At least once a week I get cut off by cars and trucks that swerve into the bike lane to go around a car waiting to turn left onto Canal. Fortunately, I've only been bumped once. I'd say it needs bollards to extend further, but it seems like we lose more and more on the east end of the bridge every time I go over it.

But yeah, passing in that lane is not a bright idea and it gets super slippery.

Almost happened to me last night. Would love to see the bollards be extended a bit.

I agree. I'd also add that passing other cyclists pretty much anywhere in the Dearborn 2-way bike lane when there's oncoming bike traffic is dangerous. Those lanes are not wide enough for this, and the other riders usually have no room to move over.

Dashed yellow lines are painted to allow passing.
