If ever I'm arrested, it will be for assaulting a pedestrian in the Dearborn PBL

THAT IS ALL.

(just kidding.  Assaulting a driver in the PBL is another tempting possibility)

I've watched a few slow motion wrecks along that would be funny if they didn't involve someone crashing.  That's why I take it real easy and never assume right of way.  Then again I don't really do that anywhere anymore.

If I'm ever arrested it will be for yelling at one of the countless cops I encounter who consider bike lanes their own private parking space.

It is pretty frustrating....especially the cab drivers who walk up and down it talking to fellow  drivers.

I almost wanted to hit one this week..knowing that  I had the right of way I would legally prevail.

Not that I encourage violence against pedestrians. Which I don't.

Between the peds, manholes, and poorly timed lights the travel on that PBL is much slower than I would like.

So is the general consensus that this is a failed "pilot?"

No more 2-way so-called protected bike lanes?

Or is this a condemnation of so-called protected bike lanes in general?

Oh, I'm a perfectly big fan of the Dearborn PBL. I just hate the pedestrians who stand/walk in it... And who then act affronted when you politely point out their error.

Personally, I think there should be signage on the pedestrian crossing light, rather than just the "look bikes" mixed on the ground at intersections

I like the concept..especially if it means given the minimal traffic input we can have them put in on more roads.  Signage would help with pedestrians...really for me the light timing is the issue. I can bike around the potholes.

I tend to be content with scaring the crap out of people as long as no one (or me, anyway) is harmed.

hmm..that should have read "minimal traffic impact".  My point was that it  doesn't seem that there was any significant impact on the cars (they didn't lose a lane, did they?)

In decades of riding, that bike lane is the closest I've ever come to a pedestrian collision, twice.  Both times bewildered tourists, getting out of parked cars, looking the wrong way, oblivious to my screaming warnings.  The lane's not a failure, nor it's two-wayness (though many would argue a better plan would've been to simply also bike lane the street one block west going the other way).  The problem is downtown as a whole is renowned for its density of people who've forgotten the basics of walking with eyes open.

I almost got arrested for spitting on a car's windshield, years ago on State St just North of Chicago.

I didn't realize that could be considered battery and if it weren't for the driver not wanting to press charges- the cop, who pulled me over, would have put the cuffs on me and taken me in.

Be careful.

Wait, what, really?  How is that battery?

(720 ILCS 5/12-3) (from Ch. 38, par. 12-3)
    Sec. 12-3. Battery.
    (a) A person commits battery if he or she knowingly without legal justification by any means (1) causes bodily harm to an individual or (2) makes physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with an individual.
