The Chainlink

I rode in to work today, and now I'm thinking I might have to bus it half the way home.  I live about 7 miles from my office which really isn't bad, but man it is hot out there.  I was just wondering if I'm the only one considering wussing out.

I will, after the healing.  She did a bunch of hashing and blocking of the black, and greywash over the whole thing, so it's peeling like a sunburn right now.  It's part of my sleeve, so I go back in 3 weeks to do the other side of the forearm (and cover a hideous tat that I have there) and then another 3 weeks (probably) to get the color put in.

Congrats on the new ink and share a pic!

And don't feel guilty about not riding.  If you don't feel good riding can be unpleasant.

Between new tattoo, not sleeping well (partially because of the tattoo), and the heat I've taken this week off.  I think I'm going to do a 5 am 10 mile ride tomorrow morning to make up for some of it, but I kind of feel guilty

Between 28 and maybe 36 deg F is my sweet spot....

Anyone else hate this weather? I hate sweating and my favorite riding temp is about 40F:  perfect for jeans and a hoodie and cheap gloves. But I know I need to get over it and get back on my bike- been off for at least a week now am pretty fed up with the intense slowness of the Damen bus in the morning. I feel like a "bike summer" campaign (I guess that's what this thread is) is the only thing that can get me back in the saddle!

It's not the heat it's the humidity.

TY for the, insightful, share. Well done.

I think the key to riding in this type of weather is proper hydration (to include electrolytes...not electric lights, 'h !  LOL !) and proper eating.

I took off this morning on a brisk pace (17mph for me is brisk) and got about 2 miles in before I noticed that my speed had dropped to about 13-14. I didn't eat well last night (due to the heat and extra exercise I did) or re-hydrate. (Just didn't feel hungry or thirsty) Plus, the heat/smell combo had me thinking back to Iraq circa 2003....not good.

However, the day before, I was rocking 22 mph without even realizing it until I hit the Archer bridge (just east of Ashland) and slowed down to 18-19 mph while going uphill. I had hydrated quite a bit the night before and had eaten lots of fruits and veggies with my chicken breasts. I even had some gatorade-flavored water before I left the house.

It doesn't help that as you slow down, the heat wave starts to wrap around you and give you a great big bear-hug !

Keep drinking water out there (and inside) while this heat wave is here.

Good Luck.

Respectfully,

I'm heading out to do some yard work now.

If I don't make it, I want all my assets (if there are any) to go to Westtown Bikes, but they'll have to put someone in charge of cleaning out my house and selling my junk at maximum value. You guys are all witnesses.

Oh dear, h'.  It is still 90 F.  If the heat does not get you the bugs might carry you away.  Please be careful out there!

Since the beginning of time, man has yearned to destroy the sun.

I shall do the next best thing: block it out.

Wishing I was in Chicago to experience the heat with everyone. In Vegas on vacation without a bike. Would have loved to be out there right now... Maybe next week

Haven't been on the bike in almost two weeks. I just got some suh-weet Panaracer Paselas in 32mm, and wanted to try them out on a shakedown ride about an hour ago. While I appreciated the supple, wide ride of the Paselas, I did not appreciate coming home drenched in sweat. I think I become a sweatier dude as I get older. Not sure how that works.

The shop piercer snapped a "during" pic (I cropped my artist out, not sure she'd be cool with being posted on the net) and a co-worker took a pic on when I got to work on Tuesday.  My Pearl Izumi sleeves are coming in real handy this week to keep the sun off of it.

I'll share more full pictures after the flake stops

Went out for 12 miles yesterday - key was leaving just as the sun was dipping down, around 7:30 (and lots of water, which was sweat out as quickly as consumed). NBT was nice and well shaded.

On the return trip, it was well into dusk and much cooler.

Yes.

Enjoying the extra sleep and a a ride on the Metra while it lasts.
