Randonneuring Defined

Randonneuring: Randonneuring is long-distance unsupported endurance cycling. This style of riding is non-competitive in nature, and self-sufficiency is paramount. When riders participate in randonneuring events, they are part of a long tradition that goes back to the beginning of the sport of cycling in France and Italy. Friendly camaraderie, not competition, is the hallmark of randonneuring.

I did the 300, the weather could not have been better, and I met some great people, looking forward to the next one.

Turned out to be a great weather day, except for the sucky south wind after Milton. Looks like there will be an additional detour around the closed rickety old bridge on Creek over some RR tracks.

How did everyone do on the ride?

WEATHER WARNINGS - Wanted to drop you all an email, the Brevet is still on this weekend, rain or shine.  However, pending any "extreme severe" weather warnings or tornado warnings at the start of the ride, I may call the ride; however, I will not know this until the morning of.  Part of randonneuring is riding in all weather conditions, rain, sleet, low temps, high temps, etc; however, I will not promote you all leaving on a 200K or 300K event under a tornado warning, unless you do on your own.   I personally do have experience with  with a dozen other randonneurs a few years ago on a 400K thru Columbus, WI.   Extreme storm clouds both sides of our route East.   Cool tail wind into town.  Flooding ahead.  We all got halted and had to stay in a town school shelter overnight in Columbus, WI, to allow the storm and flooding to pass.  Can't really ride in the dark and see flooded streets too easily.

Anyway, the bad news is ACP approved BREVETS (which these are) CANNOT be rescheduled.   So if you decide to not ride, drop me an email at glrinfo@glrrando.org that you will NOT be riding this weekend and I will credit you for another weekend.   Only those that drop me this email prior to Saturday morning will get a credit.   I'm only doing this, because this is a NON-PBP qualifying year.  The extreme weather is not risking anyone's ride and life over.

If you do come and all goes, come PREPARED.    Even on a 200k or 300k, you need to be seen, have lights and reflective rain gear.

See most of you this weekend I hope.  We have a about 12 - 300K and 8 - 200K advanced registeration and typically double them day of.

I likely have no way to update this account while in Delavan.

Please ride wisely and if you pre-registered, and want to advance bail, you have a "this weekend only" bail ticket.

Me too Kelly, can't make it either on Saturday.   I'm going to try to visit the Quad City, St Louis or other clubs to complete the series. I did the QC for my 200k last year, it was an out-and-back route.  Too bad I have to work this weekend....

I know no one knows me, but I'll be there.  Hope to meet some of you.

I have to sit this one out too (didn't make the 11th either).

So much for riding the entire series this year. :-(

So how is headed up to Delavan this weekend?

Adam..

The Montagnards site was working when I posted the information however I've removed it until it's functioning again.

And while I'm on the subject of computer bugs, Jim has identified the cause of the routing error through Milton on the 200k cue sheet and it is being corrected. The route was correct on the 300k cue sheet.

Updated sheets will be available for the next brevet. We apologize for any inconvenience. :)

Lee recently (or maybe I'm just seeing it) posted a link to http://www.cyclosmontagnards.org/ over on the GLR site.  Sadly the site has been down since I've been trying to access it.  If, like me, you've been wanting to check out the site, you can see what they have to say over at the Internet Archive:  http://web.archive.org/web/20110817231424/http://www.cyclosmontagna...
