The Chainlink

Mrs. Duppie and I wiil be spending Labor day weekend at the MTR 2012 in Madison, WI. Anyone have any recommendations for a good bike shop to peruse? I prefer shops with a good selection of commuting doodads.
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure it's really going to fit the 'commuting doodads' criterion, but if there's one shop in Madison to check out, it's the Yellow Jersey.

+1 to Yellow Jersey.

Other than YJ and a few others Madison tends to run towards more of a chain-oriented bike shop theme.  Most shops have 2+ location.   It seems every Bike shop in Madison is either Erik's, Willy St, or Budget Bicycle Center.  That's an exaggeration but Madison doesn't have the sorts of bike shops on every major block like Chicago does.   Chicago riders are really spoiled by the plethora of great local independent shops.

If you end up traveling through Milwaukee, stop through Wheel and Sprockett.  It's a local chain, I have been to the one in North Shore 6 or 7 times now.  They are a pretty good group of folks, and have a great selection.  I will probably buy my next overseas made bike there.  They have plenty of commuting stuff, and have some higher end stuff as well.

Hopefully one of these days they will open up Amtrak for bicycles without having to box it up, as they do going down state.

Don't miss Budget Bicycle Center's used bike shop.  It's a marvel to behold, though the prices are shocking.

Oh, and don't miss the Farmer's Market at the Capitol Building. (Saturday morning)

Duppies - we will be that way as well, although closer to the dells and the sparta elroy trail. Ill ask a madison friend if he has anything to add here.

And I still owe you two dinner!

"Budget" is one of those words that doesn't necessarily mean what people THINK it means.

The same goes for "Quality."     EVERYTHING has a "quality" -it doesn't necessarily mean a good quality...

Yes, I would add the prefix  "Blow the" Budget Bicycle Center

Some people can afford to have 4-digit monthly bicycle "budgets."

Ooooh, the MTR. I'm jealous. Post lots of photos on your return.

I looked at their website. Looks like the have a lot of 'rare' brands worth looking at.

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely try to go there.
