Description

No, this isn't about being entirely ready to have God remove all defects of character.

It's about riding to Three Floyds and boosting our cognitive function every month this year! There's a somewhat consistent schedule -- usually the 4th Saturday of the month -- and you can qualify for the F-12 Award.

Meet between 7:30 and 8 at Intelligentsia Broadway to caffeinate. We then take Barry east and the lakefront trail south. Feel free to join up anywhere along the trail. Just let us know where so we can look for you.

42 miles total if to return you ride to Hammond and take the South Shore Line, 45 if you ride to Flossmoor Station and take the Metra, 50 if you ride to 93rd and take the Metra or to 100th and take the J14, 55 if you ride to 71st and take the J14, 70 if you ride all the way. 12 mph. I like to get to Three Floyds before they open at 11:00 (they're the seventh-best brewery in the world, and the food, like the beer, is unapologetically in your face with flavor, so sometimes there's a line). Bring money, government-issued ID, a lock, water and snacks to have en route, and panniers for beer you can't get in Chicago.

Online resources: Google map, cue sheet, South Shore Line schedule, Metra Electric train schedules, Jeffrey Jump (J14) bus schedule, Bikes on the South Shore Line, Bikes on the Metra, Bikes on the Bus, and, to save a minute at the start, the nifty online CCC waiver.

Running down the road? Try to loosen your load!

PS: I give these rides these names because I find them humorous in an ironic way. It's not my intent to make light of addictions, efforts to recover from addictions, or 12-step peer support groups like AA. If you're trying to drink in moderation, we'll support you. If you're trying to abstain, you may want to give this ride a pass.

i assume that's 18th Street Gluttonous Swine, as opposed to the Gluttonous Swine after the 17th

thinking ahead:

i'm expecting to take the south shore line back from hammond. there are trains at 1:57 and 4:40.

because of taste of chicago, there's no alcohol and there may not be room for everyone on the south shore line and the metra.

new since last time:

  • Kinder Gott Yeager
    5.7% ABV 61 IBU $5 Stein/5oz pour $2

German-Style Super Lager. Clean and traditional lager yeast dominates the aroma with some spicy, herbal and floral notes. Malty sweetness upfront with a strong, lasting bitterness and a dry finish.

  • 18th gluttonous swine
    11% ABV $6 Snifter

Brewed with roasted coconut, pecans and cocoa nibs, this Russian Imperial Stout is rich in sweet chocolatey flavor and goes down smooth. Our take on a German chocolate cake.

  • Dogfish Head Fort
    18% ABV $6 Perception

The world's strongest fruit beer, brewed with Oregon and Delaware raspberries.
