CBS2 reports about the ongoing dangerous and hazardous conditions that exist at Halsted and Madison for road users and pedestrians, and the inaction by CDOT to resolve it.

Crashes have doubled in the immediate vicinity because of all the hazards created by the building construction and the Chicago Department of Transportation has done very little to improve safety here or change traffic conditions accordingly.

"CDOT has the ability to modify lane closures or even require personnel to be on site to manage traffic. Wasn't there enough information out there already to indicate to CDOT that the intersection was a problem and that adjustments were needed?"

What will happen next at this hazardous intersection?

Aldermen Walter Burnett Jr. (27th) and Daniel Solis (25th) will the both of you please be proactive to remedy this hazardous intersection !

NBC5 Chicago reported that another cyclist this week was hit by a cement truck and nearly run over again at this intersection.

A neighbor said that trucks should be restricted from turning at this intersection.

What, and inconvenience a contractor or developer?  No way!  What do you think all those campaign contributions are for?

Wow, great right hook video.  I think a lot of cyclist need to be aware that "the law requires motorists to turn right from as close to the curb as practicable", and that cars should use the bike lane as a turn lane.  GL getting Chicago drivers to figure this all out though!

Edit:

I think a lot of bike lanes in Chicago do not have a dotted line therefore should NOT be used as a turn lane.  I'll pay closer attn. on my ride home today.

If anything, it was good to see the construction barriers coming apart today.

So they are in the process of removing them today Juan? That is something positive happening there.

It looks like it will feel less crowded going into that intersection. I saw a forklift moving away those concrete barriers and the dismantled scaffolding over the sidewalk.

Seems like nothing significant as far as space is concerned has changed.

Comment : With the removal of the concrete wall at this hazardous intersection through all the requests and pressure put on by cycling community sources and the media (CBS2 Chicago, NBC5 Chicago and The Chicago Sun-Times), I thank all for their efforts and concerns about effecting positive change in conditions and situations for our community. We must all continue to work together on this path of change because we still have much more to do.
