I am not able to confirm this, but I was told that Sportif Importer on Lawrence is closing and is currently having a buy one bike get one free sale. Is someone able to verify?

I wouldn't be surprised.  The bikes in that store are 20+ years old.

More like 40+

it's amazing to me that they stayed open as long as they did, given their general attitude towards potential customers...

(BTW, nothing necessarily wrong with 20 yr old bikes.)

I agree Mike, most of mine are lugged steel.

I've been hearing people complain about Sportif Importer for the last 35 years.  I bought a Raleigh Technium there many years ago.  No problem, it was a decent-enough bike for the price.  I never thought of the place as a bike shop, more like a giant bike warehouse where if you knew what you wanted, you could probably find it reasonably cheap.  I know I'm in a very small minority in liking it even a little.

Grew up not far from there. Me (and my brothers') only memories of that place were of the owner being really rude and snarky but they DID have bins and bins full of old, weird parts. I'll hop in there one last time.

Matt, I asked a friend of mine out there to investigate.  This should answer your question, unless he's both diabolical and a Photoshop expert.
