The Chainlink

You blew the red light east bound on Lawrence at Damen at 5:26 pm this evening.

There was enough time for the biker in front of me to make it half way into the intersection, northbound on Damen, before you came whizzing past my front wheel.

I yelled "You're an idiot!" at your big haired chick, self, and you looked back at me. I meant it!

I woulda testified for any of the cars, that managed to not kill you, if they had.

Keep riding like a tard!

love,

gabe

Witness bad behavior during your commute? Feel free to post. Maybe that lovely human can read it and think they are famous. Maybe you can also inspire the whole generation of kids to shower but we can start with small things.

Sometimes I think of a 3-foot fiberglass rod with a carbide-tipped scratch-awl on the end. :-)

that's funny - i have often entertained the idea of scavenging an old whip car antenna from a junkyard, sharpening the point and bolting it to the seat tube of my bike. get too close to me? you'll get a nice long scratch down theside of your car for it!

For me it's the "yield to pedestrian" signs. Why are they designed out of soft plastic to crumple when hit by a car? The ones on Clark in Andersonville are always flattened. Kind of sends the opposite message. They could be made sturdy enough to do a little damage to the offending vehicle without being a real safety risk. Maybe they would get some more respect then!

Yes, and the same applies to the bollards on at least *one* of the protected bike lanes I can think of... the Jackson Blvd bridge over the Ryan. They were placed a couple months ago and were gone within days. Cars-is-the-bike-lane is a regular occurrence now.

For as many comments as I see out there regarding "dangerous" cyclists, the motorists are the ones to watch. I walked to the grocery store this morning and had three different cars (3 out of 3 cars) that couldn't be bothered to stop or even slow down when I used the crosswalks. I see similar things when I ride - driving in the bike lane, being impatient because I don't go as fast as a car, etc. I see impatience on side streets as well as Damen and Lincoln. If a motorist is running that late, maybe they should wake up earlier and be more organized rather than try to make up the time by refusing to yield to pedestrians and cyclists. I'm truly tired of hearing that cyclists are the problem when as a cyclist and pedestrian, most of the time that's not the case.

^^^^ all of this.

Look out for this piece of work everyone!

Older, overweight white male with apparent rage and adequacy issues driving a Volvo S60 T5 IL license # AK 51655 purchased from the fine folks at Howard Orloff; buzzes me with barely inches clearance, then a few blocks later when I get in front of him to make a left turn he starts yelling obscenities out the window. My invitation for him to step out of the vehicle was not accepted.

Of course he's an Uber driver; if you are cyclist he might run you over, if you are a passenger he might stroke out behind the wheel.

Jesus. I wish there was an effective way to complain to Uber and Lyft about the worst in their fleets.

No kidding.  That's one advantage about licensed cabs. At least there's a mechanism through the city for complaints. I wish there was a similar mechanism for Uber and Lyft, whether it was through the company or the city. I think we need to push our aldermen on this.

I just keep wishing Uber and Lyft didn't exist. I've never used them and don't plan to. One of the worst developments in transportation in a long while.

Amen sister! But until they go broke and give up, it could not hurt to let our alder people and mayor know that we are unhappy with them.

I've tapped a few Ubers/Lyfts for being dumba__es, suddenly encroaching on the bike lane, making me move over to the right when their obliviousness doesn't see a cyclist on the bike lane, next to them.

Yesterday I ride up Lincoln, this happened twice and this time I stood my ground. If they're going to graze against me and actually make contact, I want them to know they are in the wrong.
