The Chainlink

You blew the red light east bound on Lawrence at Damen at 5:26 pm this evening.

There was enough time for the biker in front of me to make it half way into the intersection, northbound on Damen, before you came whizzing past my front wheel.

I yelled "You're an idiot!" at your big haired chick, self, and you looked back at me. I meant it!

I woulda testified for any of the cars, that managed to not kill you, if they had.

Keep riding like a tard!

love,

gabe

Witness bad behavior during your commute? Feel free to post. Maybe that lovely human can read it and think they are famous. Maybe you can also inspire the whole generation of kids to shower but we can start with small things.

And this is why I hate "sharrows" half the drivers ignore them, park in them standing waiting for their passengers or like the mentioned just use it as a curb which conicidentally there was a space for 2 cars directly in front of this incident where he could of pulled over and let his kids out to see the game but nooooo! that would mean parallel parking, signaling, merging back in,losing your spot in the endless line of cars avoiding Sheffield heading North.

Lazy,entitled,stupid college educated rich people.

Glad you'll be OK, and no doubt - book smarts do not in any way extend to street smarts.

Indeed.

I thought it was only $250 but yeah its an incident but I was working and that 30 minutes or more wouldnt be worth it. Unless these bruises turn into more then I would sue him for my medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering...

I've done the scratch down the side but I only learned it from close calls then realized my front rack leaves a nasty scratch esp on high gloss lux vehicle paint.

I've had mostly positive experiences with police downtown River North because they understand how people drive and the risks cyclists face.

He heard a rant of profanities built up from numerous shitty drivers like mr Merecedes just had to save 2 seconds to turn in front of me to park for the Cubs game.

Another Mercedes turning right from the left turn lane on Lincoln onto a one way street waving his hand for me to move.

and it's unfair to generalize rich as poor drivers, the guy driving a 2006 Rusty Toyota drives just as bad he DGAF

The short Mexican girls driving an SUV doing food delivery just as bad.

The Pakistani UBER driver just as bad.

Education is a small factor and income makes you feel entitled driving an S Class but you learn to drive at 15 or 16 still living at home. The Govt thinks your responsible enough to operate a 2 ton vehicle but not to smoke, not to vote, not to drink not even to have sex.

So then you go off to college get a Bachlelors,Masters,PHD maybe study abroad then forget or DGAF about anyone else after that while driving.

Or maybe you transfered here from a smaller town city without the density and cycling community and are ignorant.

End rant

I'm sorry that happened to you. That sucks. I do agree that in general Uber and Lyft drivers (of any ethnicity) and cab drivers all tend to use the bike lanes for pick ups and drop offs which is NOT cool.

I do get your point just please be careful about the stereotypes...

Stereotypes are a bummer e.g. Mexican, Pakistani (I am part Pakistani and a very good driver that doesn't drive for Uber nor do I own a 7-Eleven :-/ ), etc.

It was meant to be more inclusive instead of just a slight against entitled luxury vehicle drivers and this group is more bike aware so no offense intended.

I could've named more but the Italians will kill me, the Spanish will rob your home while your at work and turn your daughters into wenches. ;-)

I don't own an Olive Garden or a Long John Silvers.

And I'm aware my conveyance or emotions may be non PC borderline offensive in the heat of the moment but it's a problem with the way I grew up. I could walk inside and tell my family to call 911 I just got fucking shot and the focus would be on the "F" word.

But I don't want to be known as Michael Scaramucci so...

Thanks for understanding and allowing me to vent/rant.

Not "borderline" offensive - the ethnic stereotypes ARE offensive.

I understand being upset and wanting to vent, but ethnic stereotypes that have no connection to the actual incident aren't cool.

Thank you Anne. Well said.

A funny coincidence:

On Wednesday evening I biked northbound on Elston rather than Milwaukee--was meeting a friend in Avondale.

For a while on Elston I was behind a woman who had a light on the back of her helmet. At Diversey, we exchanged a few pleasantries with the motorcyclist waiting next to us at the red light.

The next morning (Thursday), I start crossing LaSalle, eastbound on Kinzie, when who do I see but the very same woman with the same helmet!

Take it as a sign Alex!
