Memorial Day Tour - Chicago to Madison 2015

Over the years Matt M's organized a number of trips from Chicago over to Madison. This year; tragedy! Matt can't manage it. I've done the last two trips and am familiar with the route and the…Continue

"I walked through on Sunday and saw all sorts of damage from OAk the way up to North Ave. The asphalt tears up pretty easily. The waves weren't this bad but a few people less lucky than me got a soaking on the curve:"

"Luckily it will work on the bike path because it's not going to see vehicle traffic. Damage is going to come from freak storms. But you're absolutely right about the roads in general around here. On the plus side our roads are way better…"

"What year is it? The components and colors other than black change every now and then. They're heavy, have a long wheelbase and don't have lightning handling. It can hustle if you have the energy and gearing - I've seen one of the…"

Tricolor replied to Ernesto Lube's discussion Nicer weather & Pedestrians along LFT
"That new section is very narrow and if you go off it you're in a sand trap. And sand's already drifting over that narrow path. I think it'll be a complete bottleneck so bikers will start to avoid it and take the wider walking path in…"

"It can get pretty hairy there when there's a good wind form the north. I haven't seen if the new stepped curb helps or makes it worse. But even the area with breakwaters can still be dangerous. A few years ago there was a nasty storm on…"

Yes sir, it's that time of year!  We have a friend in common who is set on coming along, so I'm content that I've at least got one companion.  I've done some route cleaning, upgraded my bags, gear, and tent, switched to solar power, made arrangements which should make the ride a bit cheaper, backed up the route to my phone, bought new tires, etc...  I'm going to stay in west Madison an extra day, so I won't be around to shepherd anyone home.  Also, all the bridges along the Glacial Drumlin have been completed, so bring your trail pass or you'll be reminded to get one!
