Over the years Matt M's organized a number of trips from Chicago over to Madison. This year; tragedy! Matt can't manage it. I've done the last two trips and am familiar with the route and the…Continue

Tricolor replied to Bob Kastigar's discussion Navy Pier Flyover to close Tuesday 9/3 for about a month
"I've wondered how they intent to tear through the bridge houses without affecting the lifting equipment, or how to balance the weight of the trail for the bridge to open for that matter. I remember an article a few years ago about someone that…"

Tricolor replied to Yasmeen's discussion What Are Your Favorite Chicago-Area Bike Lanes, Paths & Routes?
"Ravenswood is a great choice from Lincoln/Grace (just above Addison) to Bryn Mawr, though I'd use Balmoral and Catalpa instead as they're one way and not as busy if you want to get over to the lake. Southbound you have to leave Ravenswood…"

Tricolor replied to Gage B.'s discussion Concrete Barrier on Lakefront path
"There are barriers along Sheridan Road above Lake Shore Drive. At Sheridan Beach and at Rosemont which dead-ends into the lake. I've been living up there for thirteen years now and haven't ever seen a storm come close to threatening…"

Tricolor replied to Gage B.'s discussion Concrete Barrier on Lakefront path
"It does make a very small run-off area completely unavailable. Water hasn't hit the drive like that since the Halloween storm five(?) years ago."

Tricolor replied to Sharon O's discussion 1993 or so Specialized stumpjumper
"My dorm roommate had a new Stumpjumper in 93. It wasn't lugged and had early rapidfires. That looks much older maybe, mid-late 80s?"

Tricolor replied to Bob Kastigar's discussion Navy Pier Flyover to close Tuesday 9/3 for about a month
"It opened sometime yesterday. Was closed in the morning and opened in the afternoon. It's not finished; there are big plastic barricades on both sides making the new section very narrow. And there's a severe dog-leg between the new path…"

Tricolor replied to dav's discussion I'm going to start riding in The Loop every day in 1 week. I want your tips.
"From roughly Wrigley would be down Clark to Halsted, Halsted to Clybourne, then Division to Wells which gets you into the loop. It's all marked though city street riding is its own special brand of hell different from the lake front. Don't…"

Tricolor replied to Brian S's discussion Linking Glenwood Bikeway to LFT

Tricolor replied to Dawn's discussion Continued concerns about the trail separation
"CPD has raised the path under there so it doesn't flood as easily, and most people still bypass it when it's bone dry. Even with all the orange catch-fences it hasn't stopped a lot of people. I finally gave in and use the underpass,…"

Tricolor replied to Dawn's discussion Continued concerns about the trail separation

Tricolor replied to JeffB's discussion Northerly Island path collapse

Tricolor replied to Jim Reho's discussion The future (or already present) of scooters
"Those new ones are less scooter and more Honda Ruckus with pedals. My favorite is still the super low recumbant with and electric rear wheel and full fairing. It moves through trail traffic like a torpedo in a war movie."

Yes sir, it's that time of year!  We have a friend in common who is set on coming along, so I'm content that I've at least got one companion.  I've done some route cleaning, upgraded my bags, gear, and tent, switched to solar power, made arrangements which should make the ride a bit cheaper, backed up the route to my phone, bought new tires, etc...  I'm going to stay in west Madison an extra day, so I won't be around to shepherd anyone home.  Also, all the bridges along the Glacial Drumlin have been completed, so bring your trail pass or you'll be reminded to get one!
