Douglas Price replied to DRU Williams-Clark's discussion Bike locked to my bike - scam?
"It's a tactic thieves will sometimes use to get you to leave your bike. Either way, if I found a foreign lock on my bike I'd cut it off."

Douglas Price replied to Jim Reho's discussion Sad Uber Event
"She did and a human driver would never have avoided her, however, this is a vehicle with multiple ways of sensing objects in complete darkness and it did detect her but ignored that data. Fuck Uber."

Douglas Price replied to BikeScnhook's discussion Waterproof bike clothing...for fatsos???
"Bike-specific clothing is a big part of preventing chafing. I like a good padded short, preferably bib shorts, and some kind of fender or mudguard to keep water off your backside. Additionally, if you still have problems with chafing, consider…"

Douglas Price replied to Scott Chillson's discussion Automated Driving Safety Survey for Bikes and Peds
"Well, I'll say that as much as I'm excited about the rise of automated cars, I hope Uber isn't a part of it. Move fast and break things doesn't carry when those things are human beings."

Douglas Price replied to Scott Chillson's discussion Automated Driving Safety Survey for Bikes and Peds
"Presumably, they'll slow to speeds the conditions allow. Visual sensors are generally inside the cabin behind the windscreen, so the wipers would clear them. Radar is generally unaffected, IR cameras can make use of rotating windows like a…"

Douglas Price replied to Scott Chillson's discussion Automated Driving Safety Survey for Bikes and Peds
"Interesting. My only real concern is communicating with the vehicle as a cyclist, otherwise, if they follow laws and are outfitted with comprehensive sensors, they should do a much better job of paying attention than a human."

Douglas Price replied to Gene Tenner's discussion Downtown Chicago double-parkers, beware: Fines to triple to $300
"They should add the cost of a tow. I'm confused why they need to park on the street, though, when it seems that even downtown there are ample alleys and loading docks where they could legitimately do their work."

Douglas Price replied to Gene Tenner's discussion Downtown Chicago double-parkers, beware: Fines to triple to $300
"It's frustrating considering how fervently (daily) they'll ticket you if you forget to renew your registration, but god forbid they write some higher value tickets for people actually impacting others."

Douglas Price replied to Anonymous Male's discussion Danger on LFT curve at Oak
"Ice is an unfortunate reality of biking in cold weather. I'd recommend you try some studded tires.  As for the curve, I really think it should be banked slightly in the correct direction, and runoff handled with drains. That would prevent…"
