This group has been awfully quiet - so much for all the plans made this winter.

I'm as much to blame as anyone - it's easy to forget about distractions like making a living and family obligations when in the throes of cabin fever.

Anyhow, I'm finally getting out there. My 12 year old daughter and I are doing GITy Up! next weekend (anyone else going?). I'm throughly enjoying the anticipation and preparation; so much so that I'm already thinking about the rest of the summer.

My next "window of opportunity" would be July 21st though the end of the month (the weekend of the 7/26 and 27 looks especially good).

Is there anything in the works, or interest in putting together a group outing?

No sign of warm nights for some time to come. Not sure if setting dates and prepping gear makes the waiting more or less bearable.

I'm all for it, assuming we have good enough weather.  So far this year, it's been extremely blustery.  Let's hope for this spring to be a big improvement.  I just don't want a snowstorm in late April.

Mmmm...mutant locust kebobs...

Either of those weekends work for me, bit it looks like they don't start taking reservations until May1, so I assume it's first come/serve. I would assume that won't be a problem early in the season.

I'm new here - have there been many group outings? Are we just handful or a full-fledged mob?

of course, when we go, there will be a biblical locust plague or alien bug invasion that will become mutated by the nuke powerplant nearby.

the weekend after easter? the first weekend in may is cinco de mayo season and likely a CHAOS event. the weekend of may 10/11 seems open. the weekend after that, im hoping to ride/camp to indy for the muddy roots festival spring weekender.

OK then. Trepidation addressed. Sounds like I need to start thinking about dates.

people just love to complain!!  yes, bugs...there are bugs.  it even rains sometimes!! crazy right? the great outdoors and such.

ive never really noticed a litter problem either. and generally, if i see something, i pick it up.  i somehow dont recall walking around all day picking up trash and swatting bugs off me any time i camped there.

it is a nice park, the sites on the northern edge under the pines are the nicest IMO. its an easy trip, and access to metra to ride back if yer bum is still sore or you just dont feel like riding back.

ive had a blast every single time ive been!

Camping n00b here - how is the Zion site? I've read mixed reviews on the interwebs. Folks complaining about bugs and litter.
