We are always open to suggestions/lead riders/route planners for our rides. I understand what Rik is saying but on the same token if you want to make it a "ride" lead by example and plan a route. All through the winter we have made it a short ride/bar/ride. A group of us left the second bar and kept riding to a different location to get food and to keep riding. Again I see Rik's point but Aaron is right, the mass will follow who ever is at the front.

Aaron
There is nothing wrong with complaining. It is part of Free Speech. Get used to it. You would not want to live in a world that did not have it. Not sure? Try a vacation in Saudi Arabia.
no complaining = no progress
I am criticizing the group and myself.

Lead it next time rik instead of complaining...if you hadnt noticed most are easily led to wherever the front goes...

Now that winter is over maybe NSCM can go on REAL rides for change and make better group decisions.
At the NSCM rides I have been at, here is what typically happens:
We wait around for 30-60 mins watching Lincoln grow his beard.
The same clique shows up late and has the same lame "Brilliant" plan: "lets ride for 10-20 mins and go to a bar". Everyone goes along including me. We get to the first bar and some go in and some of us wait outside for another 25mins. Then the ride dissipates and splinters apart off into 9min ride bar hopping.
I bailed out at the 2nd bar.
This plan makes some sense when it is 10F and below. What was the reason for it on our March ride; it was a nice night with 45F?
We spent more time waiting around than actually riding!
We even had a rider ready with a music system.
Hello. I thought it was a RIDE.

Kimberly,
To make a recommendation, it would be helpful to know what neighborhood you live in. Chicago has many great LBS', and typically you don't need to go further than a mile (or two) from your home
Take a look at this. You can search the map quite conveniently, and for most places there are enough reviews to get a good idea of their fit for your needs

As for me, I am an unapologetic fan of Uptown Bikes

I do repairs out of my home in Rogers Park. I'm a veteran mechanic, having worked in several Chicago shops including Turin, Higher Gear, Pony Shop, Rapid Transit, etc. over the last 20 years. Let me know if I can help out, Kimberly.

I've been told Turin is the best in Evanston, if you're that "Far" north.

Hey everyone,
I need a recommendation for a LBS. I need a tune up and my gear changer is messed up - probably because I've had to leave my bike outside after my landlord complained about me bringing it in. Any suggestions and a place to go where I won't spend all of Santa's money?
