Well, we're both wrong! This from Wikipedia:

"Coney Island hot dog (also Coney dog, or Coney) refers to two different kinds of hot dogs. In some areas, it is a hot dog made from beef with casing, topped with an all meat chili, diced yellow onion and yellow mustard. This type of dog was primarily developed in Detroit, Michigan, and served there and in the "heartland" states; that is, the non-coastal states of the U.S."

"In other areas, most notably central and western New York, a Coney is a white hot dog, a stronger and more spicy variety of the traditional pork hot dog. These are sometimes also referred to as "white hots." Heid's Restaurant of nearby Liverpool, New York is famous for its coneys. Coney dogs of this variety are usually served bare or with mustard."

BTW the latter sounds much like what I ate at Don & Bob's at Sodus Point outside Rochester, NY when visiting grandma!

I gotta say, a coney is not a chili dog. Not the same at all. Rather:

Coney :: Chili dog
as
Nacho cheese nachos (a la the Cel') :: Real Nachos

I have a suggestion I talked about with BK. Why don't some of us rent a car, load our bikes, and drive to Detroit the last Friday of some month to support it's Critical Mass?
