And another point....there are so many fabulous blogs written by women riders in Chicago and around the world that it will be difficult to not overlap some of the work that those folks are doing.  A cycling sisters site could also be a list of blog to different sites that already have the resources written out...and we could add a calendar of differen women cycling events in Chicago.  That could even be done with an embedded google map, which would require very little coding on the administrators part.

I was just looking for the thread about cycling sisters in my email and I realize that I did some purging of my inbox and couldn't find it.

I'd definitely be interested in helping to put together a new website for the cycling sisters if that is what we'd like to do.  I've recently working with Wordpress for my own site and really enjoyed everything that I could do with it.  Perhaps we could that platform for re-doing the site?

I'm planning on moving in May, but I'd be up for working with some folks nad getting a core group set up as administrators for the site.

Hello Cycling Sisters--

The website mysteriously went down but now is back up. This was posted on the chainlink main page, but I am reposting here. Since I have not been so involved in CS in recent years, I am not sure the current landscape. . .is anyone currently tending to the site? If not, is there are team of Cycling Sisters who would like to take the project on?

The site is back up. We are not sure why it went down. This brings up to me a larger question of site maintenance. I was part of the team that got the site rolling ten years ago (ah, memories:
http://web.archive.org/web/20020329151359/http://cyclingsisters.org*),
but it looks like it needs some TLC. Web-cited Cycling Sisters can
contact me about support with site maintenance and overhauling.

Goals from our old main page--how did we do? ;-)

We hope this website, the listserv, the monthly rides, and projects yet to be conceived will help us reach the following goals by May, 2005:

  • Increase percentage of female bike commuters in Chicago to 50%
  • Decrease "maiden in distress" incidents by 50%
  • Quadruple options for finding functional yet stylish cycling clothes
  • Decrease frustration associated with finding an affordable bike that fits by 80%
  • Decrease incidence of butt-pinching and "hey babying" by 100%

Ladies, we would like to hear more ideas of Cycling sisters rides and events. Yes, there is a demand, there are events but no takers.. Can we be more brave, open and spread the word of Cycling Sisters to newbie's, oldies, friends, neighours, workers, hand out fliers at CCM rides, at your neighbourhood, at work etc? Any IDEAS? Please step in and join the parade!

This is an update on anyone that would like to volunteer for us. You don't even have to work on bikes to help us in Bike The Drive. It does help if you ride, But not always necessarily. So please contact me as soon as possible.
Thanks
