The Chainlink

About this debate we seem to constantly get into about the Mass being this or that... It doesn't matter at all, it's all cock rock, as they say. We can whine, stomp our feet and yell as loud as we can but no matter how important we think our ideas on what the mass is it still just doesn't matter. Not a single one of us is more right or wrong than the other and we certainly don't have any more authority than the average rider. No matter how hard we try to influence the Mass with own our agenda it'll still keep on keepin' on. Whatever influence we have is fleeting.

But if we are going to continue to snipe at each other can we at least keep it in here, in "The Ring?"

Whatever, I'm right and all the rest of you are wrong.

I know best so just keep on talking and I'll keep on being right.

You'll see.

This is =exactly= what the "debate" is about. It's been debated since the first CM ride in the early 90s.

What I don't fully understand is why you're so threatened by discussion of it. I have a few assumptions, but it's always better to get it from the horse's mouth.
I am not afraid of it at all my friend. I just think the personal attacks recently need to stop and they are coming specifically from this topic. If it is going to continue at least we can have a spot to go at each other and not make first timers reading the main topic forum think it's just one giant bitchfest. That'll drive people away from participation a lot quicker than a team of map makers. : )
Hey, sorry, you can dismiss my posts as "bitching" and "pollution" but maybe someone else who cares about the mass might find food for thought, or grounds for agreement. Or mature and literate and productive disagreement.
On the one side we've got your buddy (who will turn on you in a heartbeat, just wait) messaging people off-forum to discourage them from interacting with me, and here you're trying to sanitize my views off to a space where almost nobody will read them.
In the end your intent with this thread is competitive and unsporting, and it's disingenuous to present your initiative as being in the interest of the critical mass discussion group. It's really all about "winning" with you, always, isn't it?
Apparently much more important to you than freedom of speech and freedom of expression.
Or better said, you're willing to fight for freedom of speech as long as it's your speech only.

Wow man. You're acting a little crazy.

No it's because you, me and a handful of other people are dominating the forum with what amounts to a personality conflict. I have been mulling it over for a bit but today really makes it apparent that everyone of us who are guilty of dominating the airwaves needs to take a break from CCM organizing AND making our opinions known about any given ride. So in otherwords Andrew, myself, you, and whoever else who feels like they are always talking should voluntarily stop following the group or at least lurk for a while. Give it some breating room.
I like you Howard. I think you have valuable opinions on the ride. But this is unhealthy. It is after all, a bike ride about Happy Friday.

With that said, I'll be the Reindeer of Joy at Daley.
I like you too Spencer.
I like your fighting spirit and feel fortunate that you're not a Teabagger.
And you were a right upstanding bloke about the trailer payment thing.
(Hey, can you make Andrew like me too?)

Maybe a better metaphor for this thread would be "Primal Scream Therapy?"

Oh and for the record if Andrew is really intimidating people over email not to participate in a ride for any given reason that is also damned crazy. But I'll reserve judgement until I hear more information. Not that it is entirely my business but I am sure I'll hear some way or the other.
OK;Let's all sing along! Know on a 1,2,3, I love you, You love me, We are a Happy~Family ! Group Huggs !! !! I Do wish that I could be out there. HAPPY~FRIDAY to all. Even Chuck Ol !
"Dominating" is certainly a factor when you're talking about an e-mail list where there's pressure to keep your posts down in order to avoid irritating people (been meaning to orient you to that . . .) but in a comment wall? Anyone can jump in at any time, and people certainly do. If I post a lot then others are free to post a lot too. People rarely read past the first page anyways because of the clunky interface.

But to a point in the OP about "the first thing people see"-- if you can stand a little less attention you may want to go to your privacy prefs and turn off activity pane showings for your posts. I did so a long time ago. Right now if you look at the chainlink home page the activity pane is full of links to this discussion. Not exactly the desired effect, is it?

Out of consideration to Tony I'm not going to publicly say any more about that (short of a court order, of course), so as far as I'm concerned you can proceed as if I made it up.

"There are two things you don’t want to see being made—sausage and legislation." Attributed to Otto von Bismark (1815-1898),
What we are attempting here is similar to making sausage.
We gag at the smell on the farm.
We puke at the slaughter house.
We are appalled at the sausage factory methods.
But somehow after it is smoked, aged, and wrapped up with a nice paper label: It is not too bad.

I think there is way too many post by some people.
I propose we set some kind guidelines.
Some thing like only 1 post per forum per day.
More than that turns into mindless chatter or may look like petty bickering.
I have seen some use their barrage of post in a few minutes as their form of CENSORSHIP.
They just try to "bury" the different point of view by moving it back so many pages out of sight.
