The Chainlink

I may be moving to Portage Park soon and am looking for any advice or thoughts about the bike commute from around Cicero and Addison to the loop, and specifically to Millenium Park where I enjoy the terrific amenities of the Bike Station. Just taking Addison east to Milwaukee, then SE on Milwaukee all the way to Kinzie is the most obvious and direct route. Any other suggestions or things I need to know or think about?

Also, how is Milwaukee/Kinzie? I've had the real joy of commuting daily on the lakefront path from the loop north to around Foster for the last two years and that has just been spectacular. People complain about the LFP all the time for being crowded or whatever, but whatever its flaws, that ride is the highlight of my day. I know I'll miss it a lot and there's no way any intercity route is going to compare to the daily miles of mostly uninterrupted fun that is the LFP -- winds, crashing waves, spaced out tourists, and all. That said, is Milwaukee The Suck, or is it a decent biking street? Can anyone say how it compares to Clark, which is my occasional route when I don't take the LFP for some reason?

Any thoughts most appreciated. Thanks all!

OK so if you made the move last summer you should have your own ideas by now but since no one has tossed anything into the mix here is my 2cents.

Milwaukee strikes me as asking for disaster, too many ped's too many cars, too many trucks and busses fighting to get their riders within 3feet of the curb. Then there are the stoplights...

My thoughts would be more to stick to Addison where crossing the Kennedy would be the worst part of the journey while the rest is managable because you're moving about the same speed and thus are more visible. The old head of CBF used to commute down Lincoln and praised it as a downtown connector for that same speed reason so that would be an option but the lakefront is also workable if you're gonna end up at the Millenium Park anyway.

So fill us in...did ya move, how's the commute and what is yer route?

Jeff
