Randonneuring Defined

Randonneuring: Randonneuring is long-distance unsupported endurance cycling. This style of riding is non-competitive in nature, and self-sufficiency is paramount. When riders participate in randonneuring events, they are part of a long tradition that goes back to the beginning of the sport of cycling in France and Italy. Friendly camaraderie, not competition, is the hallmark of randonneuring.

Is anyone doing a brevet this weekend out of Delavan?

Has anybody ever considered biking the whole 300K from Chicago to Madison via Milwaukee all in one shot? It's 10 miles shy of a double century.

The route for the 600K is not yet posted, and I wonder if it will consist of the exiting 400K plus the 200K. Does anyone know?

Hey Amber! I would describe the 200k course as consistently rolling, except for the last 20 miles or so that are pretty flat. Most of the hills are not too steep or high. It is a beautiful, low traffic route. I'm looking forward to the 300k!

Hello, everyone. I'm planning to do the 200K next Saturday, and I was wondering how hilly the course is. I like to psych myself up beforehand. This will be my first brevet -- hope to meet some of you there.

Dont know how many are on this list, but as of 4/14/2010,
41 members have signed up for the GLR group......
29 riders to date for the May 1st 200K,
18 riders to date for the May 15th 300K,
16 riders to date for the June 5th 400K,
13 riders to date for the June 26th 600K,
and these numbers do not include others riding the 200K or 300K offerings on any of the later season dates.
This is a great PRE-REGISTERATION and we will easily see up to twice as many on the May 1st 200K with day of shows.
HOTEL NOTE: register early, they are booking up fast, and booked solid for June 26/27 weekend due to a Jimmy Buffet concert in Alpine Valley.
RUSA MEMBERSHIP NOTE: If you are at all training and planning for the utlimate Paris Brest Paris in 2011, make sure you have registered to become a RUSA member before doing THIS YEARS rides. The number of KM you ride this year places you in a better position for pre-registeration in 2011. But you must be a RUSA member to gain this credit. And remember, you still need to qualify with a full series in 2011.
See you on the 1st.

I'm happy to set up some events for discussion purposes so the interaction in the group isn't limited to an epic chain of comments on the main page. :)

Stay tuned, or others are welcome to add them too.

In the meantime, I'm planning on the 200k on 5/15 and playing the rest by ear because of some other commitments over the summer.

How many are scheduled to do the Brevet series in 2010? Who are you?
Comment by dan b on March 18, 2010 at 10:18pm
Is anyone interested in going on some trail rides around chicago? I'd like to get some long rides in before the brevet series starts but it can be a pain to drive an hour or two before starting a ride. It should be easy to put together some 100-200km rides starting and ending in the city. Maybe next Sunday (the 28th)?
