Welcome to the ChainLink group in support of Chicago's annual running of the World Naked Bike Ride: "Celebrating the end of the oil and the beauty of people."

World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is an international clothing-optional bike (or other person powered) event where participants ride en masse for the dual purpose of bringing attention to people powered transport and promoting positive body image. For a great overview see WikiPedia.
The event is bare-as-you-dare; anything from body paint to underwear to fanciful costumes are encouraged. Due to legal restrictions in Chicago, full frontal nudity is at your own risk, but large numbers of participants do go all out. Large-scale body painting is typically available pre-ride, and personal expression is encouraged. Cyclists familiar with Critical Mass (which is massive in Chicago) can simply see this as a special clothing optional additional June mass.
Chicago's past events included many hundreds of cyclist and numerous inline skaters, and covered over a dozen miles of high visibility city areas. In 2008 the 5th annual event drew a staggering 1700 riders! Blessed by decent summer weather in a great cycling city, the event has grown into a fantastic rolling celebration, with similarities to other major alternative parades world-wide. Participants often describe it as a transcendent group experience, personally transforming, and beyond superlative.

PARTICIPANTS: Check-in after 6pm near the "O" sign, 1077 W Randolph (ish).
SPECTATORS: Come near Finkl, on Cortland by Kingsbury before 11pm. Wave and cheer safely from the sides, behave yourselves or else, and come without car.

i highly recommend wrapping seats with something "pleasant". bum cheeks tend to stick to plastic, vinyl, leather, etc seats and will leave an unsightly red mark down there.

don't put bare skin on your brooks if you're worried about irritation (and you should be!). i don't have particular recommendations on the ideal fabric to use, but covering your leather saddle with something (t-shirt? scrap material?) is probably a good idea.

This will be my first time out at the naked ride, and I have a practical question. I'm not really comfortable letting it all hang out, but I'd like to rock a thong. The problem is that I've been a bit prone to saddle sores lately and I'm worried about 3 or 4 bare-assed hours in the saddle, even at very low intensity. So I'm curious if people (especially anyone who uses a Brooks) who have ridden bare/in a thong have had any issues.

Hey Bike Shops, would someone(s) please contribute sweep rider(s)? I'm looking to give profit opportunities wherever possible. If you wanna field a vehicle with huge self-ads, but at least you're carrying a pump and wrench, PLEASE do so. And anyone receiving service of significance (innertubes?!?) EXPECT TO PAY. Cool? Bike shops, please follow up with contact info, tell me what you need.
