ooo, thanks for sharing.

Over the weekend I rode the trail between 87th and 121st. Trail conditions were generally excellent.

Other than a small amount of broken glass right at 111th St. (most of which I picked up), that whole length of trail was pretty much free of broken glass. Thank you Chicago Park District!

A portion of the on-street section of the trail is torn up for water/sewer reconstruction. This is a MAJOR construction that may last a while. It affects Charles St. from 95th to 97th.  I've mapped 2 different detours for this section of the trail.

Version 1 is straightforward and has a stoplight to cross 95th.

Version 2 is slightly shorter and a little trickier. Vanderpoel is closed to through traffic north of 95th, though it's possible to pass through a gate by the fire station. This involves a sharp turn, so it's worth slowing down there. There is a stoplight to cross 95th St.

Workday this Saturday 6/17. If you'd like to come and help out, we'd be happy to see you.

Last ridden May 5 Whistler Woods to 105th.  There was a bit of glass on the trail hear and there no sections I felt i needed to carry my bike through.  These conditions have been reported to CPD.

The next Friends of the Major Taylor Trail meeting is May 21 7pm at Ridge Park.  All are welcome.

Friday July 6, I rode almost all the trail giving a friend a tour.  I found the trail in C+ conditions:  Limited small patches of glass.  Limited vegetation over growth.  All have been reported to maintenance.  Some major vegetation removal between 107th and 110th.  Saw heavy equipment.  Be aware of bridge painting crossing the Little Calumet River leading into Whistler Woods.  Mural dedication July 21, 8am.

The next Friends of the Major Taylor Trail meeting is Monday July 16. 7pm at Ridge Park.  All are welcome.

Saturday July 21, Trail in B+ condition. No witnessed glass. Small amount of overgrowth between 91st and 95th. Mural crossing the little Calumet is a MUST SEE. An outdoor museum about Major Taylor. cannot capture it in a picture. Connector to the still under construction Cal Sag Trail is 99% complete in Whistler Woods.

We've had some good changes in recent months. Some of you may have seen the new mural on the Little Calumet River bridge (just north of Whistler Woods/end of trail) that was completed in July.

A longtime problem at 105th & Throop (on-street section just past north end of park district portion of off-street trail) was just fixed. There was an uneven drop-off where east-west 105th St. meets the previously unfinished section of Throop by the new housing development. Throop was finally paved in the last week. Yeah!  That uneven edge caused more than one crash over the years, so this is a very welcome improvement.

Mixed bag - old wooden fence east of the trail between 107th & 111th was falling apart and falling down. It was recently replaced with a concrete wall, similar to the noise walls you see along major highways. If you see any degradation of the trail surface in this section (due to crushing load of having a cement mixer on it during wall installation), please report here.

Work in progress - getting the crumbling curb ramps replaced at 115th St. and getting better curb ramp/corner configurations at 119th/Halsted and 87th/Damen/Beverly.
