Further, a fellow car-hater recently argued that even the male killed a few months back crossing an expressway (not forumed above) should be a candidate, citing that monstrous scar of tar with no better crossing options as the cause, not foolhardiness.

I agree. The Chicago that should have been built would not feature probable death lurking around every corner upon a momentary lapse of judgement (although we don't know why the cyclist was there).
The next step would be to gather information and start a thread for that victim.

Any initiative you would like to take encouraged/supported; In my mind we were going to have a flurry of preparations and placings around March/April of next year in advance of the Ride of Silence and after snowbanks and plows are a placement consideration, since bike winter stuff is going to be monopolizing my free time until the end of February-- but my participation is not needed.

FYI the bikes that were on display at the Pilsen Arts Society Ofreda were offered to us-- feel free to make that connection.

This is a "Ghost Bike" memorial.

2. Just got the last bit of backstory I've long wonder about. "9087" on Amanda Annis' bike's sign is the number of days she was alive. Calculated by the bereaved fiancée.

2010.11.07 Condition Review: Post-ride story from Sunday needs a modest write-up for which I have no time this hour. Overall they're fine! But wanted to immediately note the condition of Lincoln/Damen/Irving (Lynch)

Due to construction along that corner's curb, the entire bike rack with bike attached have been pulled out of the concrete and carried whole a few dozen feet northwest, and leaned on a tree. The bike's OK, but the assembly is in limbo.
Optimistically, it could be that when fresh concrete is poured along that sidewalk (if not already), the rack will be re-placed in it. But I worry.

If we want to be sure that bike stays, could someone with time take it upon themselves to visit the corner, or make some calls, to find someone involved in the construction / planning there for dialog?

Hope the photo below is readily comprehensible, it was dark. Should this be cross-posted to the Yahoo group? Or have they been told to come here enough times.

It looks like a lot of great work and research has gone into the ride-- come on out if you can.

One request- I don't live on the north side and rarely see most of the bikes (and can't take it tomorrow):

-Isai, Western and Armitage-- I righted the front wheel today, but if you should happen to see it has been knocked sideways, please take a moment to right it.

-Tyler, Logan/Western: The sign has recently got covered with bird droppings. Please bring some sort of wipes if possible, or some sort of spray (even water will help) and clean it if you're willing.

Both: Once they were placed the bikes became property of all of you and everyone else who calls this city home, but if I may offer my preference I think the bikes are best oriented slightly diagonal to their respective intersections-- I often find that they've been adjusted perfectly in-line with traffic flow, and while the details are going to be readable to very few drivers regardless, I think the ability to see that there is a name on the sign and get the general idea that it's a memorial/marker is of benefit to drivers on both cross streets (I repositioned Tyler's bike today).
Also, I don't know if this is something Andrew wants to happen during the ride, but please feel free to show up any time with some white spray paint and touch up as needed, as long as provisions are made to keep overspray off the sign.

I've posted updated notes of interest on the tour this Sunday, and ...
Maintenance assumed as always needed is smart. Some critical supplies and tools will of course be brought.

Oh, I see.
I don't see much value in having documentation of maintenance needs-- we can assume that all of the bikes are in need of maintenance.
Ideally they'd bring some paint, bungees, duct tape, wire, etc. and actually do some maintenance on this ride.

Just found out about the Chicago Ghost Bikes Ride -- which could be a great time to assess the condition of each bike and keep on top of each bike's maintenance - maybe even designating certain folks to check up on the bikes regularly.
