-take the time, if possible, to assist by helping track down missing information or details.

-try to post information to pertinent discussions rather than to the comment wall, so we can find it down the road, or otherwise stated, avoid posting discussion to the comment wall for which there is a discussion thread started.

-feel free to add past victims who were never memorialized, or start discussions about existing ghost bikes and/or their victims.

Question concerning maintenance 4 Replies

Hello everyone,     I was wondering if permission is needed to do a little maintenance/upkeep on an already existing Ghost Bike.  I don't want to change anything about it, just clean around it, add a new coat of paint, maybe add some flowers. …Continue

I've posted updated notes of interest on the tour this Sunday, and ...
Maintenance assumed as always needed is smart. Some critical supplies and tools will of course be brought.

Oh, I see.
I don't see much value in having documentation of maintenance needs-- we can assume that all of the bikes are in need of maintenance.
Ideally they'd bring some paint, bungees, duct tape, wire, etc. and actually do some maintenance on this ride.

What is the Chicago Ghost Bikes ride?
Comment by Chicago Ride of Silence on October 18, 2010 at 12:53pm
Just found out about the Chicago Ghost Bikes Ride -- which could be a great time to assess the condition of each bike and keep on top of each bike's maintenance - maybe even designating certain folks to check up on the bikes regularly.

My feeling is that late winter/early spring is a good time to schedule some build days and get bikes prepared to place, and that the Ride of Silence provides a good "deadline" to work towards. Feel free to initiate any time though.
Most of the current bikes are badly in need of maintenance again.
I saw Isai's bike from the bus today (Western/Armitage) and someone's knocked the fork halfway out again.
