Information

Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).

Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

Looking forward to joining some rides!  Thanks for setting this up Serge!

Testy, Serge, Testy.

Perhaps this little tidbit from Knoxville

(somewhere along the downtown greenway under a bridge),

will chill you out.
IMHO it would make a dandy mascot/logo for our august group!

I hope 5 Rabbit's Tap House opens early this year. That would be another good one on the south side...

I hear what Duppie's sayin, but we can navigate by streets near the IPP. Also, is 18th St. Brewery in Gary on our list. More info here!

How about Lake Bluff Brewing (approx. 30 mi from the north side) and/or Mickey Finns (37 mi) and/or Tighthead (42 mi)?. Lake Bluff and Micky Finn's are close to Metra lines and all reachable by paved path/roads, so thaw should be less of an issue.

Never been to Tighthead myself, but heard good things about them.

Mickey Finn's is good; Lake Bluff is great. Food options at Lake Bluff are limited.

fair enough Duppie, it would be cool if we could establish a monthly thing, possibly keep a bit more local until the weather warms up a bit.

@Deet, are you talking about Two Brothers?

Winter/early spring may not be the best time. The IPP often does get very soggy, especially after a thaw. So while the temps may be nice, riding on the IPP will not be.

Better to wait until it dries out later in spring (i.e. April).

My $0.02...

What do you guys think about setting up a ride out there in the first or second week of Febuary?

Comment by globalguy on January 13, 2013 at 3:11pm

SO EXCITING! 2 Bros is immensely doable, even the Aurora location. As are the locations along the Fox River between Batavia and St. Charles. Alan Lloyd and I did an +80 mile fiasco one Sat just to prove it! All Hail the IPP!  Also there's a new distillery in Riverside as well as one of IL's oldest taverns in Oak Brook; both accessible with the help of the Salt Creek Path.

This looks like it could be cool, it seems that a route from downtown to 2 brothers seems rather do able, any thoughts?
