Information

Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).

Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

We can always get fancy and order a glass of wine!

I just took a peek at Village Vintner's website and their beer list is quite interesting. I think a stop there will be in order!

Duke's might be fun to grab a beer before the 30 miles down to Geneva. I saw Penrose and if they're open they might be worth a stop as well.

Stockholm's is at 306 W State and Geneva Ale House is at 319 W State so definitely not going out of our way!

When I get the chance I'll create an event for Nov 9 since that'll be the day after my birthday. We'll figure out the stops and other details as the date approaches.

Been to Stockholm's. What a depressing place. Wouldn't get out of my way to try, but if it is on your way you might stop there, just so you can say you've been there. After all, this is CBES:

"Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits)."

I'm thinking Metra to Crystal Lake then ride about 30 miles down to Geneva. We could eat at Geneva Ale House (they have Tighthead and Local Option on tap) and then pop over for a quick beer at Stockholm's. Then another 10 miles to the Roundhouse.

Nov 9 or 16 will be the most likely dates.

Have any of you been to Stockholm's or Geneva Ale House? The former is a brewery but the latter has better online reviews and an awesome looking beer list including some local Chicago brews on tap.

I'd like to plan a ride in November along the Fox River and Prairie Trials and these look like good pit stops en route to the Roundhouse.

How amazing does this (finalized) draft list look?

I tried the Emmett's in Palatine on Alex's ride this past Saturday and thought it was really good. I'd be happy to pay them another visit.

I vote no on Solemn Oath. Simply because they refused to fill your growlers when you went. I also don't like businesses that don't take cash as I prefer to not use my debit card.

I agree with Serge. Who cares if there are some "hipsters" in a brewpub?
