Updates

What's new? We're trying to find out exactly what is going on with CDOT. If nothing specific is planned yet, we'll mount a letter-writing campaign that vividly shows what we want, why and when (now). If they do have plans, we'll go from there.

Our next meeting will be Saturday March 13th, 10 am at New Wave Coffee, 3103 W Logan Blvd.

(NOTE! - no meeting at Ciclo Urbano we've moved it to the New Wave Coffee shop)

Meeting space should be secured by Monday-- aiming for Wicker Park Library or Humboldt park field house (park district building). I also have a 40 cup coffee maker to contribute. let me know if there are other ways I can help. How about making it a potluck?

At the last meeting, we left it that we were going to look for another place to meet, preferably a coffee shop. Snacks and drinks = good. Does anyone know of a place not too far north, not too far south, with enough room? I'd expect anywhere from 5 to 15 people.

Todd & Sarah & ??-

thanks for the meeting time & place update. I'm planning to come so please post it here if any changes are made to Ciclo Urbano at 10:00 AM on March 13th. Since that sounded somewhat uncertain ... Thanks!

Jason, regarding the meeting time & place, I was expecting the next meeting to be at Ciclo Urbano (aka West Town Bikes) at 10:00 AM on March 13th. However, I'm not 100% sure that is correct as there was talk of alternate locations and times. Hopefully Sarah or someone else can jump in with more certainty.

I think that the Green Boulevards name is a great idea.

I just read ATA's status on FB saying "...Bike Boulevards in 2011." This is very exciting news, though I am going to wait until I read something official before showing this excitement.

I am following up on the discussion about which roads would work best as Bike or Green Boulevards. How about Hubbard? Even though Hubbard ends at the industrial area at N. Campbell it is very wide and lacks much vehicle traffic, unlike Fulton. Unless the city is planning to relocate the Fulton fish market for more condo high rises (just throwin' it out there.)

Your point is absolutely correct. This is the hard decision:

Do you keep the mission focused on bike transportation byways exclusively (and cut out the aspects of pedestrians, rollerbladers, recreation and local residents who would appreciate the boulevards as green spaces, and for community-based events like farmers markets, art fairs, etc)?

Or do you include them (as ATA chose to do--in a way--when they name changed), to broaden the support base--and to appeal more broadly to the politicos and city planners and to partner with other community groups.

If the name got more broad/inclusive you could still make the priority planks of the group's mission/platform to be very specifically about promoting an effectively interconnected bike corridor for transportation.

Any additional goals--and benefits--to the groups mission would make it more attractive to more people, but might also dilute the message and the ability of the group to maintain the clarity of its purpose.

This is a very deep, mission-defining question about the goals for this project & group. It would be great to hear what other folks think about it...
