According to the Trib. this AM, 86,000 people are injured by their pets each year, many tripping over them.

45,000 bicyclist are injured every year according to http://bicycleuniverse.info/transpo/almanac-safety.html (scroll down to Non Fatal Injuries)

*Ah, statistics, MASSIVE DISCLAIMER: of course this doesn't work as a direct comparison, I suspect many more people own pets than bike regularly (what are the injuries per million miles of pet usage?), and then there's the sub-set of bicyclists who are pet owners and how often they get injured by a. there bike, b. their pet.
But, it does make you think a little.

My cat just fell into the toilet this morning.
my cat only hates on his tail.

my bike hates on my thigh.

neither have deliberately harmed me.
I broke a tooth wrestling with my dog.

Not her fault tho'
My bike has never given me Salmonella. Then again, neither has my turtle.
One of my baby rats once mistook my finger for a lab block and gave me a nip that looked like a pin prck. Never happened again. I've been in the hosptal 4x and hospitalized 1x on my bike... but I guess I spend a lot more hands on time with the bike than the rats. I don't keep my bike in a cage.
A friend told me a funny story a while back about a toilet splashdown. One of her cats was fascinated by watching her husband stand and pee. The cat decided to jump at the stream and splashed down into a toilet full of pee. The wave soaked his legs, the floor in the surrounding area, etc. She slammed the door shut and the two of them had to catch the wet cat and wash her in the tub before she could escape and spread pee all over the house. And they also had the fun of mopping the floor and wiping down the walls. Now that sounds like an entertaining evening - but only as a spectator. LOL

You know what the cat had to grab onto to get out of the toilet did you forget that part ?
When i first got my kitten I stupidly fed him wet food from my hand - big mistake (had razor sharp baby teeth and was starving) . Had to spend the next 2 hours at the hospital and had to get a shot. It was worth it though, he is such a sweetie. -

In this case, the cat just scrambled and did NOT grab onto that tender part.
