I just read the article posted above about the sting operations done by the Austin police where they send undercover officers on bikes to watch for drivers that drive too close. I was wondering if it will be even remotely possible to have CPD start such a program. I know the chances are slim but just in case something can be done, I am willing to volunteer for the undercover job... Anyone else with me?

Well we do have our own cops on bikes already, so it beats me why they aren't sitting on the edge of the city roads the way motor cops are on the edge of the highway.

I am thinking that the uniforms might defeat the effectiveness of the sting operation.  And I doubt they could catch a speeding car starting from a dead stop on the side of the road. :-)

I agree with both points, Lisa, although they don't need to catch the speeding car as long as they can radio the offender's info to someone else who would pull them over. On the other side our bike cops will be pretty effective given the size (read width) of some of those dudes... :)
