The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

Now, I understand that trucks have to take wide turns. However, there are three lanes on northbound Orleans, and plenty of room to make a left turn given that it's a one-way street, as there are no southbound vehicles crowding the intersection. From where this numbnut stopped, it appears that he had the intention of stopping on the bridge in the bike lane before I screamed loud enough for him to swing back into the right traffic lane. Be careful out there.

Where's the side-guard on that truck?  That's a city truck, aren't they required to have them?

In an act of hypocrisy, the city only requires privately owned trucks that do business with the city (with a contract >$2 million), or trucks weighing 10,000 lbs or more to have side guards.

In addition, the requirement to retrofit trucks is phased in over 4 years.

Rough commute this morning. I nabbed over 15 vehicles illegally parked on Jefferson, Harrison, and Halsted. What a sh*t show. Hopefully the 311 system is back up.

It appears the new 311 system supports logins! Yeah! Having to re-enter my contact information for every stinkin report was a PITA. Of course, that assumes the new site actually works. I'll try it tonight.
