Your phone's already doing all that. I use Google Fit so at least all the data's in one place.

Garbage fear mongering article. 

Strava and many of these fitness trackers are setup as "social networks" so of course the data is shared, and it is REALLY EASY to turn that off. You can share data with only those you wish, or not at all. Those options are not hidden within these apps.  

You personal information is yours.  Are you logging Strava at an FOB in Afghanistan and have it set to public? Yeah, that bad. But not Strava's fault.  Learn to use the technology, don't be afraid of it.
