This would be an excellent answer to the recent "crackdown" of cyclists riding through the North Shore. Who's with me?

Riders arrived at every stop sign in a single file, coming to a complete stop and filing through the intersection only once they were given the right-of-way. The law-abiding act of civil disobedience snarled traffic almost immediately.

"The thing you say you want — every cyclist to stop at every stop sign — you really don't want that," Morgan Fitzgibbons, one of the protest's organizers, told SF Weekly. "You're going to destroy traffic in every neighborhood that has a heavy dose of cyclists."

oh, I get it...I hope it's not me

They have these up along St. Mary's in Lake County, and I've wanted to follow them with signs that detail the 3 foot passing rule in Illinois.

:)

I don't know why, but the vibe of a lot of local Highland Park residents always felt overly snobbish to me for whatever reason. Sorry to those who disagree(and that's cool if you have a different opinion), just my personal opinion sad to say that I've felt over the years of my trips to HP. It's weird I've never seen this sign, on my more recent trips of being very briefly in Highland Park! I know I'm reading this thread 2 years after it was posted, but seeing this pic of this sign makes me laugh so hard!

As if you'd find a lot of bikers, that don't adhere to the Idaho stop rule(myself included who support the Idaho stop).

I can't say how many times I approach an intersection and a car was clearly there before me so I stop then they just sit and look at me.

That happens to me too. Even when I'm driving a car.

But I think that most drivers just expect that cyclists will be unpredictable and they don't know what to do in their presence. Even though I commute by bike quite often I also find it hard to know the best thing to do when interfacing with the cyclist while driving. I am so sympathetic that I want to give up the right of way or I am simply confused as to who has it because my attention has been over focused on trying to not injure the cyclist.

And sometimes we weave or swing out because a door opened, broken glass or a small pothole. I ride fixed on 700x23 unfortunately it's meant for smooth terrain and much of Chicago's streets are anything but.

Even better is while on a bicycle, the driver flags you to take right of way even when your feet are off the peddles!

Same here.

When they were doing the "crackdown" on Kinzie the officer stepped into the bike lane informed me I needed to stop, I agreed put one foot down, looked left, right then straight to make sure no vehicles had the right of way the ambassador looked puzzled and asked what I was doing? I told her I just came to a complete stop. It's the law.

They were out on Kinzie again last night and one of the bike ambassadors was screaming at me to stop.  STOP FOR THE RED LIGHT. STOP! STOP! STTTOOOOPPPP!

The kicker?  The light was green and had been since I had been East of the bridge.  The cop shook his head and waved me through.

LOL. Justice is color blind
