My opinion is, that in society, without the checks and balances of a free press, the freedoms of all of it's citizens is at risk.

So Joe Ricketts shut down ChicagoDNA, and all of DNA, because the New York office attempted to unionize.  Well, moderators, feel free to to delete this comment, because I say, screw you, Joe and your family (except Laura) and Rickettsworld.

Echoing Tom's post--I feel privileged to have been able to read Alisa's coverage of all issues in and around the Wicker Park/West Town area for the past 5+ years. The end of DNAInfo is a real loss.

Wishing Alisa the best and hope she lands somewhere that will allow her to keep doing what she does best.

Remember to keep shouting that all of those people lost their jobs and neighborhood reporting was deemed useless to a BILLIONAIRE who doesn't think that journalists deserve a freaking livelihood.

That whole family can take a long walk off a short pier.

Not unlike our billionaire Governor holding the state budget hostage unless he gets his way. It's a heavy handed, scorched earth way of operating. It is most certainly not leadership in any positive construct.

aww, thank you, Tom!

I've been in shock since reading the news about DNAinfo and Chicagoist. Two publications I read often.

Alisa, it's been lovely working with you and reading your articles these past few years. Thank you for all you've done for cycling in Chicago!

Couldn't agree more. Alisa's work at DNA Info and Stephen Gossett's work at Chicagoist will be missed. But hopefully only for a short time. Great reporters who will land on their feet.

You will be missed.   . . .

Alisa Hauser reported on so many key issues in the #bikeCHI community. She was thorough, reliable and steadfast in her reporting. She'll really be missed. Thanks for sharing, Tom.

We are beyond thankful for Alisa & the exposure we received from her Block Club Chicago publications this summer. Her articles created an avalanche of media attention & spotlighted the issue of blocked bike lanes. We will miss you Alisa. You will forever be a Chicagoan. #bikechi

Thank you, Tom, Michael, Christina and other Chainlinkers for the very kind words. I will miss biking around Chicago and sometimes writing about transportation issues and cycling.

All of you are welcome to join me at the goodbye party at Lubinski Furniture, 1550 N. Milwaukee Ave.  along the "Hipster Highway" from 5-7 p.m. this Friday. More details are in the Medium post Tom included here. Hope to be able to say goodbye IRL. There will be donated tacos and champagne. Plus a holiday photo area!

Alisa,

Thanks so much for everything you've done for Chicago's bike scene and local news. I've been relying on your articles and insights for years and will miss you. That said, Portland (!!!). WOW. Wish you the best on your next adventures. Don't be a stranger. We'd love to hear your bike take on THE bike city of the West coast. :-)
