State of IL officials warn bicyclists TAKE EXTRA CARE THAT THEY ARE NOT KILLED

OMG this is TRAFFIC JAM NIGHTMARE HORROR beyond your worst imaginings!!!

Read about warning to bicyclists in the Chicago Sun-Times June 12, 2014 5:10PM

Quote from article. "Another issue will be the 260,000 cars that daily use the Kennedy pouring onto side streets, and state officials warn bicyclists to TAKE EXTRA CARE THAT THEY ARE NOT KILLED by frustrated drivers, though of course not in those words either.

“Bicyclists are also urged to be aware that there will be additional traffic on arterial streets, and like motorists, are encouraged to plan accordingly,” IDOT suggested in a press release."

I was hearing earlier this afternoon on the radio a city spokesperson was recommending that drivers leave their cars parked and use a bicycle instead for travel in the affected area around the Ontario Street bridge. They also recommended a Divvy bike rental as an alternative to using a car. I have been seeing plenty of those "frustrated drivers" on the last few weekends but how much worse could it get now this weekend.

O M G ! ! ! CARMAGEDDON ! ! ! Be safe out there people!

Anyone notice any carmageddon this past weekend? I didn't, but I wasn't out much.

I had to be in the west loop last evening and had to have a motorized vehicle. My bike plan was nixed.  There was no problem with vehicular traffic on the expressways and I saw plenty of unmolested cyclists happily riding on Elston and Milwaukee. I think the powers that be did a nice job of lowering everybody's expectations and scaring away drivers who really did not need to come into the city. The result was relative calm in the world of transportation.

Didn't even notice construction on the highway this Sunday...maybe they should hype this "carmageddon" every few weeks...

on CH 5 during an interview with a cyclist, the cyclist was hit by a car who came to close! No serious injuries reported...

There was coverage of this last night on whatever station I was tuned to (channel 5 news?) and they took "robot language" to a whole new level.... they not only absolved the driver and the vehicle of any blame, but were cut-and-dry that "the curve in the road" where she was stopped was the murderer.
