On day seven, the halfway point of an attempt to set a world record in pedaling a stationary cycle, Kevin Millar could only say he was "tired."

"I'm extremely tired," the Naperville resident said Saturday afternoon. "I'm only sleeping 15, 20 or possibly 30 minutes at a time. It's just physically demanding to get up, get back on and keep riding."

For a week now, Millar has been challenging himself to surpass the record of 268 hours, 32 minutes and 44 seconds, which, according to a spokesman for Guinness World Records, was achieved by Jamie McDonald, of Gloucester, England, from Dec. 8 to 20, 2012. That's roughly 11 days, four hours.

Millar is attempting to ride for a full 14 days.

Naperville cyclist's attempt at world record ends; charitable rides continue
Charity ride continues

A Naperville cyclist's pursuit of a world record has come to an end, but he will continue his effort to ride for 14 days and local charities will benefit, he said.

"We were informed that due to the lack of witnesses that we have here around the clock we are unable to obtain the title for the longest marathon static cycling ride in this attempt," said Kevin Millar in a video he posted on You Tube this weekend.

Millar, co-owner of Handlebars Cycling Gym & Health Bar in downtown Naperville, said he was notified via e-mail Saturday by the Guinness Book of Records that his quest was not viable because he did not have enough support to document his cycling and resting periods. Despite multiple phone calls and appeals to the Guinness people throughout the day Saturday, Millar said he was forced to give up on his dream of shattering the record.
